It was a big meeting, with consultants, registrars, specialists nurses, pharmacist, local community team and Reece's local consultant we were there 4 1/4 hours in total.

We feel it went very well and Mr Puntis explained that there may be things they can try to get Reece off TPN even though his initial opinion was that after reaching 5 it was unlikely he would ever come off. There are so many many tests to be done first though, tests that have not been done at Manchester on him, so until these are finished surgery, unless absolutely emergency will not be imminent, but there will be some going to happen. There also was mentioned removing the gastrostomy and putting in another tube that will go directly into the lower bowel and we will then attempt feeds again, which Reece has never tolerated into his tummy, but this will bypass the gut so may be worth a try. Firstly will be an increase to his TPN as he is not growing and is terribly under weight, this may also help the bowel to function better. Also mentioned was a reflux op, but not too sure yet about that plus the S T E P was mentioned. So all is not lost.

Through it all Reece sat there and never moaned once, except for saying I don't want to go to theatre again. We just have to explain why things have to be done and he sort of understands but also aks why him so I told him I have to go too, but Grandad and mummy don't. It just seemed to help explain that some folk do and some folk don't neep op's. There's no flies on this fella I tell ya.

Ty,

There are so many changes taking place on how we administer the TPN, a lot lot easier, plus Leeds actually can use the Omegaven PN if need be, which is what we wanted Manchester to do as it is not dangerous to the livers. Also the new intravenous pump we are getting is small and it will allow Reece to be mobile whilst on his TPN instead of being stuck in his bed for 12 hours a night.

Three nights on increased TPN and Reece looks totally different, we can not believe how different he looks so we weighed him, 15.2 kilos, that is the most in heck knows how long. Unreal.
