not sure if you have tried this but you can control skybox from the box itself you dont need to use remote control, also sometimes signals cant get through if remote and sky box sensor  a bit dusty ,needs a wipe with a cloth

Using the buttons on top of the box makes no difference, the remote is working cos i can use the volume buttins on it.

Lokks like im playing poker all night!!

remove the cable from the back of the box, leave for a min, replug whilst keeping a finger pressed on the back up button on the box(keep holding until box goes into reset mode)takes about 10 mins, then just turn on.if its sky plus you will lose all your recorded stuff though.
lots of good sky info on avforumsuk such as how to get out of not paying for an engineer when you need one

Sounds like the power supply in the box is faulty, this is quite common.
You can get good deals on new boxes on ebay, if its covered by Sky warranty they will replace it anyway.

Mine had similar problem not so long back.

Dead box, got a replacement from these guys on ebay - excelent service and aftercare : http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Rob-and-Jaynes-Electronics-Shop

Bought a PACE DS430N for 44.99 after advice from them. GREAT box.

Here is their page of reviews of sky digiboxes http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/Sky-digital-digibox-receivers-Whats-best-whats-worst_W0QQugidZ10000000000116416

Same happened to mine few months ago.  Mine wasa  Sky+ box with the internal hard disk.  Thought it was that so took out the hard disk and tested..  Disk was fine..!!  Is yours a Plus box?

I looked up this on google and found loads of sites out there with people having same problem...

Best advice was to do a special reset by unplugging, and then replugging while pressing certain buttons on the front to do a hard drive wipe etc and get it back to factory defaults.

**********************************************************************
WARNING....  This procedure wipes the hard disk back to like it came out of the factory.
**********************************************************************
These are done on the box, not on the remote control..!!!
Unplug the mains then press and hold the two buttons either side of the select button, then plug back in mains while holding the two buttons in... it takes a while but the drive lights on your box will spin backwards, once this happens, let go of the 2 buttons and press the select button on the box, the record light will come on, and leave the rest to the Sky+ box.

I should have also said, this is not always successful.  Was not on mine, ended up being offered an engineer visit by sky for £60.  Did not take em up on the engineer, got a nice new HD box instead..!!!
