It just seems like a load of bollocks to me. If you don't have that sudden urge to go out and celebrate the changing of a digit on the calendar you are accused of being a mardy mustard, yet when people get to their destination, they complain about the crowded bars, lack of transport, price of admission, inability to reach the bar, etc, etc. It's just boring, overpriced nonsense. Why do we need an excuse to go out on the piss with our mates, and why would we pick the day when any every other mug in the country is doing it?
Woohoo, let's celebrate it being 2008, what a monumental occasion. In fact, let me pay for that privilege of experiencing the turn of the year in all its wonderful glory. Feck that, can I celebrate it next week when it's free?

I agree with you, just wondered why you had a dislike for it.
The whole festive period is now just far too commercialised for me - too many people/companies out to make money ( and sometimes a hell of a lot of money )

That's what companies are meant to do though.
I don't see the point NYE myself, it's just another night really!

i used to love NY
i would work over christmas so i could get NY off
but everyones married now
and i dont like getting pulled up and down steps into peoples houses by people that are pissed
so a quiet night in for me if anyone comes knocking at the door they will get the offer of a wee dram

Modern new year is a bit of a joke tbh, I have fond memories of when i was young and at my Gran's house, The kitchen and sitting room tables would be laden with snacks and fingerfood, the front door would be wide and welcoming to the world, and the atmosphere was phenomenal.
These days however its seems to have moved away from that once a year even where family, friends and neighbours come together to celebrate the passing of a year ( bad or good), Unfortunately community spirit and family bonds are not what they used to be, and its a sad sad decline in my opinion.
These days it seems to be a choice between overpriced trendy bar / club or street party and freeze your nuts off and get overcharged for small watered down measures.
Quiet night in, wee dram at the bells, kiss to the wife and i might get lucky when the kids are asleep, I have to say it beats the alternative.

Heroes DVD boxset
No ticket necessary.

the thing that annoys me is those out once a year twats that make pubs too busy then get too drunk too quickly and ruin house parties.
tbh tho most weekend nights are like new year anyway just without the aforementioned twats.
roll on next saturday when all the part timers are back where they belong.
have a good one!!
