A better way to sell?

morning all 

I've just sold a few things on e-bay.

It cost me £1.50 to list it, £0.13p to add a photo, £5.00 as a final value fee and £3.63 as a paypal fee when I got the payment.

So of the £95 I sold these for, I get £84.74

Is there a better way to do things, where I don't lose as much as 10.8%?



In particular, is there a safe and more cost efficient way to sell to someone who, although you do not know personally, is an existing customer and has arranged by e-mail to buy from you in the future.

er...was a joke post but um.. why not? Post on gumtree.com or somesuch and specify Stars/blonde/FTP or whatever....if this makes no sense it's 05:41 *hic*

ebay fees are ridiculous and why you're seeing less and less being sold on ebay by companies.

There isn't an alternative for individuals to 'safely' sell stuff to strangers over the internet.  Which is why ebay continues to make millions of pounds profits on a daily basis.

You could always try gumtree, but obviously be careful about how the transaction takes place.  Gumtree is owned by ebay of course.

Ebay has so many people looking at it though.  You may not have got £95 for it elsewhere, especially if they have to collect the goods.

List on ebay,  if someone bids on your item and your happy with the amount, email them and sort out the transaction outside of ebay, just cancel your auction. Save ebay costs, but not paypal if you accept payment via that.
