Well, it's mine for a start... Kind of.. Just gonna smoke the last of my tabs, pop down the shop and get some nicotine gum. It's a filthy habit. Makes your clothes smell and your breath bad. Also kills you. Hell it's enjoyable, but I fancy being able to breathe unaided by the time I get to 50. Anyway fancy joining me or taking part in a last-longer bet? Not sure how this would be judged though...

I lasted 6am New Year's Day to 5pm New Year's Day. Total waking non-smoking time = 2 hours. Good luck, man.

My plan was to give it a bash from Friday but not too confident tbh. Think I might need to give it another week or so and re-read Alan Carr first.
Good luck!

The best way to give up is to get pregnant!! A close friend of mine was a real heavy smoker and from the second the piss test was positive the urge for a ciggie vanished and hasn't touched one for 4 months, Now i understand it's not the most practical way to kick the habit but atleast it's another option for you (women atleast)

New year's resolutions are bollox..if you didn't quit earlier you are not ready to quit yet..simple as that. New year's resolutions only make you feel guilty when you break them.
Either do it because you really want to or don't do it at all..you shouldn't need the feeble excuse of having bought a new calendar to quit.

I found out I was pregnant with my daughter 2 weeks into giving up smoking - so that ensured I didn't touch one again. By the time she was 4 months old I'd gone over a year without a ciggie and was sure I'd reached the stage where I could just be a social smoker.........

Aye, it's not really a New Years Resolution, as I've been planning on giving up anyway. Just thought it might be easier to get the Christmas (and especially) New Year's parties out of the way first. Just thought I'd post to see if anyone else was doing the same, as it's the time of year when people tend to give up (this and non-smoking day I expect)...

I read somewhere that Brian McFadden is not allowed to marry Delta unless he gives up smoking first Same thing happened to me, I gave up right away.

Even if they are perfect for you in all other respects? Seems a little harsh to make not even one concession...

Not sure how this would be judged though... Stuff nicotine replacement, a social smoking friend (5 ciggies on a night out once a week) became addicted to the gum and was using it constantly in the end as it created a bigger dependency as he wouldn't smoke all the time but chewing on gum isn't an issue anywhere. I would reccomend Allen Carrs book personally but i know it doesn't work for all. Best of luck anyone who is trying to stop smoking though.
