Boxer Amir Khan has been banned from driving for 42 days and fined £1,000 for driving up to 140mph on a motorway.
Khan rapped for speeding
The 20-year-old had been convicted of breaking the speed limit while driving his sports car on the M62 motorway on New Year's Eve in 2006.
Khan was believed to be driving his BMW 6 series convertible at speeds between 135mph and 140mph.
A police officer told Rochdale Magistrates' Court his speedometer was "off the clock" at 155mph as he pursued the Commonwealth lightweight title-holder on the M62.
Sentencing Khan, 21, of Bolton, District Judge Pamela Baldwin said there was not enough evidence to prove the Olympic silver-medalist had exceeded 100mph but she was satisfied that it was in excess of 70mph.
Khan had denied the charge but during his trial accepted his speed may have reached around 75mph.

Wow if he was in fact doing said speeds and was caught surely the fact he was charged with dangerous driving previously (knocking someone down)

makes his sentence far too leinient..

they are not..having a good barrister helps though. they should have taken his license away completely..as they do when you drive 10 MPH on the motor way.

If they thought he was doing speeds of "between 135mph and 140mph" then the fact the speedo shows over 155mph demonstrates that it's not calibrated and therefore inadmissible as evidence (as it's incorrect). Was the police officer on his own?
I'm not a legal expert, so I'm not sure on this, but I believe that a police video car (with a calibrated speed on the video), has to have the other car in constant view for a specific distance for the video to be admissible as evidence. I'm not sure what distance this is, but 400m rings a bell (but I could be making that up).
He needs a slap though. Potential to be a great boxer, but it seems he's also showing the potential to be a prize idiot.

I doubt they can take a later charge (charge not conviction) into account when sentencing for an earlier offence

Is it just me who finds it amusing that this 42 day ban is to run concurrently with his six month ban for knocking down a pedestrian on a pelican crossing

Is it safe for police officers to drive at 155 mph?

I'd have rammed a band of 12 months up his arse and made him resit his test.
