Cash Bank Role - Questions

Hi Guys,
I have a mate of mine, who to be honest is quite well off and thinks alot of my "cash" poker play... Now he has offered to invest £1000 into me and anything I win over the top we split 50/50... What do people think about this, I could sit and play alot of £1/£2 Pot Limit live cash down the VIC or even make a trip to DTD...
What do people think about this... Is there any thing people would bring up regarding it... or not really... or go for it and see how you get on? Due to the fact I would put a grand in too means I suppose I could play £2/£4 or £5/£10 pot limit?

If you are underroled for the stakes you play then I certainly think that being staked can have a roll to play. However, £1000 (or even £2000 if you are matching his money) is not enough to play £5/£10 as part of a long-term cash game strategy. It may not even last you more than a couple of hands at £1/£2 if you have two big hands beaten.
If it really is 'Here's £1000 to have a play with' then yeah - spend someone else's money. No one's forcing him to invest in you. If he genuinely doesn't understand about bankroll management, and doesn't mind you losing all the money, try and spin it up at £5/£10 if you want experience of a bigger game.

Cheers, I have noticed over the past few weeks im alot better at cash than tournys, yeah I cash in tournys but always losen up when Ive tripped ish my buy in get bored and look over at the cash table anyway...
I have been playing cash for 5 months now at
www.ontheriverclub.com
and also in Southend Casinos... and a couple of turns in the Vic and so far I have only had the biggest loss I have had at cash is £75 quid... Im very feerless so money is not the problem...
I was thinking playing £1/£2 pot limit is best really using a bank role management system and it has been said he would wager it to me etc... 50/50 split over is not to bad... But im just a tad wary as I know I can do it etc...
Dont suppose anyone will be playing cash in the Vic over the weekend...

1k is a roll you can play .50-1 NL with. I think you might indeed get away with 1-2 PL but definetly nothing higher if you really want to use it as a proper bankroll.
You would still under-rolled with 1k if it's your long term bankroll. And "I'm very fearless so money is not an issue" is never the best thought to have when it comes to bankroll management. The biggest loss also doesn't mean a thing..neither does the biggest win.
If the 1k is part of a long term strat I suggest you guard it with your life as you are very short with only 10 BB's even at .05-1£
If your mate just said "here's a grand, piss it away in a night for all I care" he needs to find something better to do with his money. I would never give money to someone to piss it away and I think your mate would probably also want you to invest it a bit wiser and do well with it. So play low stakes, grind it out and give your mate something to be proud of rather than use it to inflate your own ego and see if you can mix it at 5-10 level.

Boldie, Thank you for a very good reply there.
I agree regarding the 50/1 or 1/2 pot limit stuff, no this is not money to go piss up the wall at all... He wants a return on it, but said if i lose it he can understand but also knows he could get a good monthly return on it... I said... If i give you 30% a month back and take 30% of it and put the 40% back into the bank role could this be the one?
And im looking to use this as a live bank role, rather than online as im sorted on that side of things!

Play 1/2NL live cash and with with £100 is my advice. 10 buyins is a bit naughty but its a spinup not a livelihood so go for it.

The smallest PL game at The Vic is £100 minimum, £3-£3 blinds. But it plays more like a £5-£5 game, and the usual sit down is $400 to £1000. All the smaller games are No Limit.
It's enough to roll you for one or two days, maybe even three. But long term, you're going to need a lot more than that, unless you get very lucky early on, or are a very, very good player.

.50/1 @ dtd mate max pull up £100, and build from there. Or selective £1/£2's there.
No way £2/£5 or £5/£10

Few things to stir things up...
If you have been playing cash for 5 months (or more - 5 months specifically at that place) and your biggest loss is £75. Then surely you have won plenty of money in that time. If you are a winner, and have had good results I put this list of negatives to you:
1. You should have the money to play from your previous wins.
2. Why would you want to give away half of your winnings.
3. Would you play differently with someone elses money.
4. Would losing all his money be a problem, it's very possible.
5. Would you break the deal off if you started to win (and hence give away) too much and would this upset your business partner.
Of course there may be benefits to using his money, but what are the reasons you need his money.
If you play with the £1000, are you going to let it grow as you win or take any profit away. At some point you WILL lose the whole £1000 paying 1-2 and probably at some point you would at 0.5/1 as well. A 5 buy-in downswing will happen at some point (as would a 10, but not as often or as soon). So you either need to build up a bankroll or be prepared to get re-staked one in a while.
If I was playing with my own roll of £1000, I would be keeping all profits in the roll. I think you should try and do the same so you can be comfortable at 1-2 instead of 0.5/1

I agree regarding the question regarding my bank role, Pre christmas I paid off all of my debt, about 6k's worth and about 4k's worth come from playing poker which was a very nice feeling to be honest... All from playing cash... so i started of my bank role at £100 again
4. No losing it all would not be a problem
5. Wouldnt break no deal as he is a good mate... and I can see it being profitable for both
I want to keep all profits in the role for the first 3 months as I know how hard it is to build it up again so i think it would be best to tripple it before taking out any more or profit!
When playing £1/£2 i buy in with £50 chips and £50 behind or £100 chips depending on casino rules...

Also, just to be pedantic, its bankroll, not bank role. Best of luck Jaydeaa.
