H.O.R.S.E

What does everyone else think of it? I, like many other young players, cut my teeth on Hold'em and some scraps of Omaha, but now i'm addicted to this new format.
Previously I didn't fully appreciate the many nuances of limit and hi/lo poker, but to listen to some of the older players describe it as a series of smaller decisions, rather than one big one (ala NLHE) helps me understand what the games all about.
Jeff Duvall put it to me the best... "You need grey hair to play that game"
It makes for a much better game of tournament poker in my opinion. Not only is the all-round aspect highlighted, but it's tough to get bored when you're constantly being tested at 5 different games.
I'd love to find some card rooms that run H.O.R.S.E competitions. Does anyone know of any? Sadly, it looks to be almost solely catered for online.

I think HORSE is a great game, it makes a nice change to play it.
Not sure of live games for it with the exception of a certain game in Vegas every year, but that's just outside my BR

Nah, just grind out a few more days at .10c/.20c on FullTilt and you'll be rolled for it in no time.

I'm Dutch..we eat Horse for breakfast!
I do like playing it BUT I get soo bored with FL HE...if there's one thing I would change abut HORSE is that I would take Holdem out or atleast make it pot limit.

I've been playing a few HORSE tournaments online recently too. Cashed in my second one, 5/64, which I was pretty pleased with. It's a good fun introduction to some other games. Found I did well at H,R and S, not so good at O and E. Leaking badly in HiLo games. Was just playing too many hands. Decided to fold pretty much all Omaha hands without A2 in them and the leak there disappeared. Starting selection in Stud HiLo is really difficult to judge though.
Got me trying a couple of Razz tournaments after that too. Can get interesting, once the blinds have gone up a fair bit. Bit boring in the early stages though.

The FLHE is ok when the blinds get up a few levels, doesn't take many imo, certainly by one round of the HORSE it's very enjoyable.

Sigh, I completely agree, I have been playing HORSE online for a while on stars the tourneys and SNG's can be great fun, especially when the blinds get high.
I was lucky enough to be in Vegas last October to play in the Horse $200 tourney at the binions Poker Open. We had 110 runners and managed 40th place, which equated to 2 full rounds. My observation was that there were some very good stud players who new when to dabble and when to fold and save bets. For my part I was probably too tight in those rounds and was looking for perfect starting hands.
Back to UK casino's maybe it will take the likes of DTD to lead the way, they have O8HL in their DC after all. Plaudits to Luton who I understand are going to run a £75 stud tournament on 31st Jan, I for one will be making the trek down there for my Stud fix!

I like the odd game of H.O.R.S.E online but I know it would bore me to tears to have to play a limit game live. Also, does anyone else think that with flop based games being the more popular format these days that the O should be Omaha Hi and the E become Omaha Hi-Lo?

Did very nicely when these games first appeared on Stars.
However found my ROI dropped rapidly as people figured out how to play it.
Still play occaisonally as a change, but a PL limit version would be fun.

HORSE is my favourite game with about 40-150 runners in as you can really pick apart those players who dont really understand all the games. Played Omaha tonight at the VIC was great fun compared to the NLHE tables as there was action and people getting more involved. Would love to play the WSOPE HORSE event this year but would be good to have a dry run before stumping up the £2.5k so if anyone hears of a local HORSE tourney please let me know.
Thanks Greg
