they are both good players the rest are just squad fillers

you could either sell those 2 for about 500k between them and pick up a few players to give yourself a squad or build your team round these 2

your going to need to pick up some trainees this is a good time of year to pick them up as there will be a flood of them on the market going cheap as chips 3-5 17 year old med/med/med thats stamina/batting/concetration or stamina/bowling/consistancy if you can get them with comp the more the better not paying more than 40-50k (i think you start with 250k)

then you would have to make do with what you have to fill the squad untill you have more money

Gascoigne looks very good, with his wages he's 75% - 89% of the way to proficient, so possibly worth training to there to increase his resale value.

Ironside is about right, you need some trainees - there is no rush for this, training happens every monday so you have a whole week to find some.

Do not hire any coaches until you get some trainees in, and then hire the coaches you need to train them after the financial update (but before the training update) to save a weeks wages.

I'm a little out of touch with the price of 17 yos, but my resp/med/comp went for £18k and he would have a made a very good trainee for a new team (although maybe a little expensive with money tight at the start!)

Have you read the newbie guide? They wrote it recently and it's very good!

Your task for season 1 is 4 fold really:
1) Not go bankrupt
2) Train up players, some to sell and get money in the bank, some to become the back bone of your squad.
3) Get the odd bargain to replace the dross in your squad.
4) Learn how the game works

Cheers for replies guys.
Never took much notice of battrick before, but working nights the next two months. Can't get poker at work so am giving this a crack. Just going through the rules etc now.
Asked for advice on here as blonde is always so helpful
Will prob ask a few questions over the next few nights.

what's the take on friendlies? Have been challenged and accepted before reading through everything. his team is a lot better than mine( obviously) but he is in his 9th season.
Are friendlies good/bad?

Friendlies are fine - not much hit to fitness, bit of cash in (probably a decent amount for you if you're playing an established team) and no ill effects if you lose (nor benefits if you win).

With FC and OD games you'll have plenty of time to get experience...

just make sure you get players' PFLs up - if they get too low they will play very badly!

I'll do someproper analysis later but you've got two decent batsmen and a short-term all-rounder captain there.

ok, you have six, maybe seven worth keeping, the rest go on the sack list, every time you bring someone in, sack one of them.
keep list (in suggested batting order)
3. Gascoigne
4. O'Neill
5. Shoe
6. Johnstone (captain and wk)
7. Langhammer
bowlers
miles and gilles (both borderline sack list)
Langhammer is your all-rounder. Get him a batting coach, a bowling coach and a fielding coach on Sunday, then allocate the relevantnet sessions to him at club>nets

you can have seven more nets. Ask Bongo about your two respectable batsmen, if they are at least resp+30%, get them a batting coach (each) and they will pop to proficient by the end of the season.

now you have five nets. Yourbowling is rubbish, you need bowlers! Decide on your favourite mix of bowlers (e.g) artS, defSpin, stdyFM,attSpin, destMed - just an illustration, not a recommendation).
Go onto the TM, set the filters to look for 17yr olds with med bowl, med cons, feeble stamina and fielding (higher SRAM and fielding if you can find it). Remember to try and get your favourite styles and aggressions. Allow upto 12k. for each purchase -absolutely stick to that! Hopefully, you'll pick them up for 1-5k if you are willing to be patient.
On Sunday, if you have got the five, hire five bowling coaches and allocate them a net each.

A new team needs ten bowlers, so you still need two more veterans.
Back on the TM,this time, forget fielding, set experience to woeful on the filter. No more than 5k each.

You also need two opnening batsmen, change bowl to bat and consistency to concentration and set concentration to competent.
allow 15k each. Oh and set stamina to competent too.
It might take a while to hind them but don't settle for less or overpay.
don't forget to change the age filter - there are not many 17 year old veterans!
Try not to hire anyone in their 30s, definitely nobody over32.

This will give you a simple, effective first season training strategy while you learn the nuances of the game.

There is another approach, involving sacrifinf squad progression to raise funds for skills trading but I don't favour it. Bongo's your man for that approach. That said, it would be worth considering it next season once you've got some bowling.

Last thing, once you've got your starting squad and your trainees sorted, upgrade your stadium to get it at optimal levels for generating gate receipts. Cashflow might look a bit scary but don't panic, you'll be ok.

Enjoy - and don't forget to enter the next Blonde Cup!

Gascoigne is at least resp +75%, Oneil is maximum of resp + 27%.

I wouldn't want to start in skill trading now, the market seems... dead! Although it could just be a lull before the season kicks in where everyone is looking for 17yo!

ok, don't bother with o'neill - hire a fitness coach. Rotate the fitness net among your trainee bowlers. After Gascoigne pops in batting to Proficient, give it to Langhammer or whatever his name is.
