Hi Vegas!

I'll have a think about some more solid advice which'll no doubt mainly be to avoid some of the mistakes I made when joining up three months ago!

In the meantime just wanted to say welcome to Battrick, it's highly addictive and you won't regret signing up!!   thumbs up

Plus it means I'm no longer the battrick newbie!  Grin

Ok here's some general pointers from my limited experience although being new it's all quite fresh!

1.  Important first up is that it's never too soon to start planning for the long term in terms of your squad and training. Straight away you'll need to sign up 10 coaches, a financial guy, a pr guy and probably 5/6 psychologists

2.  Nets can/should be used to improve your current team but also try and allocate 3/4 nets to a promising 17 year old that you can sell for a huge fee after a season or so.  Having a million quid or so in your bank account makes a huge difference to your potential overall performance as you get 5% interest each week (up to £80k max) although you'll need 8/9 financial guys by that stage to earn the full interest.

3.  Try and ensure that any players you buy have balanced ratings with regard to appropriate concentration/consistency and stamina.  e.g. a "competent" batter might look better than a "mediocre" but if his concentration and stamina are worthless then you'll be better with a guy who has mediocre for all three.  Be patient in the transfer market as the right players will come along at the right price soon enough.

4.  Stamina and player fitness levels are very important and seem to be overlooked by many players.  Try and get enough decent players so that you can rotate enough so that your players are either energetic or sublime in each game.

5.  Hugely important to know your opponents. Look at their squads esp fitness and also pay attention to which managers are "real" in your league and which are "bots"  (computer teams to make up numbers esp in div VI).  See which managers are no longer signing in?  You can get away with playing an average lineup against a bot or inactive manager whilst resting your better players for the tougher games.

6.  Don't bother with the youth academy for at least a season or until you're rolling in cash

7.  You can develop a free youth pick each week. Although they will likely be poor at this stage it is possible to get lucky. (instantly fire any rubbish youth picks!)

8.  Try and always keep your cash account in the black and plan financially ahead in terms of when your home games with gate receipts are coming up.

9.  Keep an eye on how full your stadium is getting and expand it as you become more successful.  Do this carefully though as it is relatively expensive initally and incurs ongoing maintenance charges.  Also only expand with the types of seating you are going to be likely to fill.

10. Definitely become a paying member as the extra stats etc are very useful.  Plus I love seeing pics of my players...lol

11. Don't bother wasting training nets on players older than 17/18 as it takes them longer to train the older that they get.  Only exception to this would be stamina where older players improve at same rate as youngsters and it might complete an older guys stats by rounding up his stamina rating.

Whoops...hope the above doesn't sound too heavy.  Hope not, as the game really is fun to play!   thumbs up

Just had a look at your leagues to give you a few more specifics......

Good news is that your one day league is full of bots, five in total which are those with the CC as part of their name. The other two actual managers are both relatively inexperienced including one who hasn't bought any new players as yet.

So the good news is you have a great chance to do well and get promoted if you build a reasonable team/squad over the coming weeks.

Only downside is that unfortunately your first game is against the best team on friday which will likely be too soon.

Bad news is that your first class league looks a real toughie!  Only two bots and five managers who are very active including four who've come down from div V with very strong squads.

Your chances of first class promotion are minimal I'd say from this strong lineup.

So I'd say, develop a reasonable all round squad and learn the player strengths so that you can coast through your bot one day games with as weak a team as possible so saving your better players for the big one day games and first class games. Although it is worth giving your better players a "bot" game here and there to increase their form.

It's important to note that you will learn far more about the true merits of your squad from how they perform against actual teams rather than bots!     Although you'll discover bot bashing is huge fun and great for morale in your first season!

Hi Keithyb
Firstly, thanks for the advice. Good to see the 1 day league is a bit weaker. My current oppos in FC are WAYYY better than my squad of numpties.
Still coming to terms with all the bleeding names of rankings( there's bloody loads of em), and getting used to the site layout.
Will put your advice into action in the next couple of days.

I think Langhammer could be a player for you. but if you want to go the train to sell route, it's his nets you should sacrifice.

One last question.
From advice given, it seems it's best to do certain things on certain days, to save money.
Can anyone give me a brief list of to do/ not to do on certain days?

Thanks once again in advance

all I can think of is hire/fire staff on Sundays, after the financial update but before Monday's training update.
So I suppose I could add make sure you are happy with your training plan before Monday morning and the bleeding obvious, FC games start Tuesdays, OD games are on Fridays and cup games/friendlies are on Sundays. Anyway, Battrick is a great game, hope you enjoy it.

Fire them before saturday, otherwise you'll pay them for an extra week Wink

Prices seem to vary quite largely with players like that.. but i'd reckon somewhere in the region of 80-150k. If you're not desperate for cash, it's sometimes worth putting the asking price quite high to see if someone stupid bids... then again, since the transfer fee was introduced it may not be so worthwhile!

What does anyone else reckon about the value?

I sold a very similar bloke for 250k last season, so I'd expect that as a minimum. I'd have him on 1 bat, 1 field and 1 keeping to sneak his secondaries up ( and possibly his batting) and I think you'll be looking at 500k+

no probs. i'd stick him on for 200k tonight to ensure u get that much. Might have to put him up a couple of times but someone will buy him.

Re: Nets. I 5 netted by best 17 yo's. Sold 1 for 3m, and the other one I managed to play in just the OD.. he's now 21k rated and he's now resp stamina strong bat, resp concentration and a superb keeper. prob worth about 5m if I wanted to sell

Financial stability is a must, as is getting to 1.6m asap. Thats how I managed. Some might not agree, but now apart from 2 players, my 1st XI are all resp at the min, which aint bad in less than 2 seasons. It also means I can buy decent players ( approx 500k) train, and sell on...to further improve my team.
