Mazhar Nawab is here, playing only his second EPT event, and therefore showing no surprise at the slow rate of player elimination thus far.  "I don't know how it's supposed to go..." he mused, before filling us in on some hands which helped his stack increase to its current 22k.  "I played Aces under the gun, but thought - I'm not going to limp here - raised, and everybody passed."  It turns out one of his bigger pots involved the , which he saw a two-club flop with against an agressive player in the blinds, who kept betting - 3.5k on the turn - but then check-folded the undangerous river.  "I think actually he was on a flush draw too," mused Maz, "And if it had come I'd have got the rest."

Other chips came from flopping the nut flush and just calling once, but scaring off his opponent with a bet on the turn which was designed to look weak but actually sent the short stack's cards into the muck.  Calmly chatting with Julian in the break, he also showed us some sunglasses which, "Some Italian guy on my table gave me for some reason."

Hi guys

Any more updates on Graham Clarkson much appreciated!

Cheers

Mr. Clarkson has dropped to 7,500 after reaching the dizzying heights of 16k not long ago.  A couple of big pots, most notably a race against an all-in-pre short stack where his AK failed to hit against pocket Tens, and he's lost a few.  But at least he had a nice dinner which, as he put it, "Was a deal at €70."  With no sarcasm whatever in his voice.  At all.

Some random counts....

Matthias Guetermann      6700
Andres Rahm Mats      8200
Johannes Korsar      7675
Darius Paszkiewicz      30500
Yngne Anderberg      23000
Tommy Hansen      11300
Sjoerd Bos      12200
Roberto Kay      10300
Christian Toboc      9850
Dan Walley      19500
Daniel Ruiter      9500
Diego Perez Marco      7200
Szikrai Istvan      12500
Redmond Lee      35000

Gareth Teatum is up to 17k or so.

He was involved in a hand as I watched his table. He raised UTG to 650 on 100 200 and found a caller on the button in Henrik Brockmann.

The flop fell

Gareth languidly reached into his stack and bet out 650 again. Henrik thought for a few moments and called.

The turn came the .

Check by Gareth, check by Henrik.

The river was the and Gareth quickly checked. Henrik wasn't in the mood for swelling the pot further either as he turned over his pocket .
Gareth looked a tad apologetic as he turned over his A-J which had got there on the river. I doubt Henrik was too concerned as he still holds an enviable mountain of chips.

Mika Paasonen is OUT.

Sketchy details of his exit were reported to me but it seems as though, after his 3.5k bet was raised to 10k by Jens Vortmann on a , he decided to push for another 14k with , but found Vortmann had hit the flop hard, holding A-8...

....no miracle King and as Vortmann had him covered Mika exits to the rail.

Frustratingly, I've not been able to access the internet for sometime now, so I have comandeered Jen's computer whilst she is away (shhhh, don't tell her....)

Anyway, I am the bearer of bad news.

Julian Thew was just involved in an allin coup. He had previously lost a big pot to Ramzi Jellasi, so found himself somewhat short. He saw a three way flop with and it fell Two Diamonds. He checked from early position, and saw a bet and a call in front of me. Sensing this was his opportunity he now re-raised half his stack with his nut flush draw, but was met with an allin re-raise...

Being committed he called quickly, only to find his opponent holding a smaller flush draw, but also having paired the deuce. A blank turn and river ensued, meaning mateyboy's measly pair of deuces was sufficient to eliminate William Hill's goldenboy from the competition. Julian looked a little tired and disappointed as he exited the casino, but I'm sure his bad run won't last too long. Good game sir.

As soon as I get access to my computer and the internet I'll be posting up a pic of Mike Mcdonald for his adoring fan (s?)

Here we have an admittedly "rather lucky" Steve Jelinek, whose 29k stack benefitted enormously from one player's exit (ah, so sadly inevitable in a poker tournament).  It turns out that the player whom Jelinek referred to as 'aggressive' min-raised on the button to 400.  Steve then made it 1,600 to go in the small blind, holding .  Agressive Button re-raised to 4k and Steve shoved.  The length of dwell before he was called led him to believe that his hand might actually be good... but no - he was up against .  With one Jack folded, it was up to the case Jack to pop out on the river.  Which it did.

His neighbour in the photo is Kasper Nielsen, I believe, who was actually the guy in the hand waaay back at the start of the tournament when Katja Thater as-good-as-shoved on that all-broadway board... Like little pieces of a poker puzzle, that that was shown was one of two Aces cracked, he believes, by Ms. Thater.  He got away from them, though, and is still in with around 9,000.

Christian Toboc is OUT at the hands of Daniel Ruiter...like so...

It all went in on a flop of , as Toboc bet out 2,100 and faced a raise to 11,500 (putting him in).  He thought for a good long time before eventually saying, "If you've got the A-K you've got the A-K," and shoving it in with the bottom end: .
Daniel Ruiter showed ...and they both stood up to watch as the clock counted down to the break and the turn and river came ...

A bit of a wince from Toboc, but a handshake later and we're down another table here in Casino Hohensyburg, which is filled with cash players as soon as the tournament chips are off the felt...

I take it all back Dena. No longer will you be named after venemous spiders and other deadly wildlife, for as soon as you wished Steve good luck, he not only hits a one out to boost his stack up to 29k, but I joined his table shortly afterwards, and he was happily raking in yet another big pot.

I joined the action on the river of an board.

His opponent had shoved allin for roughly 7k which was a pot size bet and Steve, who had him confortably covered, announced "I call" very quickly with his flush of .

His now chip-less opponent insta-mucked, leaving the tournament wiht his card before I had a chance to get more information on him. Steve however was happily gathering his new assortment of chips of many colours, telling the table, "I didn't need that...I'd've called him with an ace!"

He now has a big grin and a very healthy 35k or so...

Giorgio Salemi just doubled through off Thierry V D Berg.

On a J - Q - 4 flop, van der Berg shoved, perhaps somewhat impetuously with 7-7, only to find Salemi was in no mood to release his powerful pair of cowboys as he called his final 6,000 off. The turn and river were both '6's, meaning Salemi was up to 16k or so whilst Thierry was looking a little more wobbly at less than 10k.

I have pictures of the duelling pair which I would dearly love to share with you, but cannot at present. Soon my pretties, soon.

An update on my son - Chris Rossiter would be appreciated - it's his 2nd EPT so far, last seen at 2007 final.

I'm sorry for the delay. I have a picture of someone who may well be Chris...he is sitting in wha tlooks like the allocated seat but without his card. I snapped him to double check, but cannot upload pics at the moment.

If the lad in question is Chris, he is currently on 9k. This is fairly far below the current average of 17k but it is only 150 300, so given the generous structure, it is still a workable stack.

I'll try and get the pics up as soon as is felinely possible.

Mike McDonald, despite trailing behind the leaders by 20k or so isn't shy about getting his chips in... just now he raised preflop to 1,100 with two callers.
Flop: .  The big blind (Andreas Sarling, I think) fired out 2,100, but passed with an attitude of chagrin to McDonald's speedy raise to 4,500... Mike showed the at this juncture.  I am sure that meant something to them both, but I'm not sure I could crack the code just then and there...
_______________________________

Elsewhere people's tournaments are on the line with increasing frequency...like Richard Fohrenbach, who made it 1,125 to go preflop, only for small blind Giorgio Salemi to re-raise to 3,150.  Fohrenbach asked for a count, and seeing that he was covered, but not by a whole lot, shoved the rest in.  He was rewarded with a fold and a no-flop pot of decent size.

But it wasn't to work for Anthony Chatelain, whose (all in pre) were eliminated by an which caught one of those overcards.  Also out (a while ago) went Sebastian Ruthenberg and about 18 others in the last level, though there are still 107 players heading into the final two hours' play.

Redmond Lee is currently one of the chip leaders in the tournament. He is apparently a young, london player who is well known online, having earned a fearsome reputation by winning stars sunday million as well as playing 10/20 NLHE cash regularly.

Jen asked "Are you sure it's Redmond Lee, not Lee Redmond?"....a reasonable sounding question...till you meet the REAL Lee Redmond, none other than the owner of the longest fingernails IN THE WORLD!

I'm thinking this girl might have no problem raking in the pots, but she might find herself scratching around for chips sometimes. She probably plays some pots too cute(icle) too.

Okay I'll stop now before Jen(and the rest of you) throw up.

Another one chasing info on Mr Clarkson if poss.

Thanks

I'm afraid I bring bad news to the hordes of fans following Mr Clarkson. Me and Jen encountered him in the area betwixt press room and poker floor, looking a tad dismayed.

He has had an up and down time of it. After a good start he lost some chips making a move with 7-7 on a K 8 x flop, only to run into an immovable pair of Aces.

The chirpy Graham was unperturbed by this however and swiftly spun his 7.5k  stack back up to a mighty 25k within one orbit (Thewy's yo-yo tag might be under threat if graham continues to play like that..)

The key hand for Graham occurred on 200 400 when a serial limper, Sjoerd Bos, whose play thus far had been donktastic questionable, called on the button. The small blind completed and Graham looked down to find a pair of Tens in the BB. "I made a weird raise at that point" he told us, "raising to 5k, as it was enough to set Bos in."

Bos however passed whilst Graham found the small blind re-raising allin...Feeling a little sick about this, Graham nonetheless felt like his opponent was weak enough to call, despite it being an additional 15k, and it proved a good call as he tabled K-Q to Graham's T-T. His coin flipping ability deserted him on this occasion however as an instant Q and a board full of non ten blanks ensued, meaning the monster 30k+ pot headed the wrong way.

Graham still had 2k back and doubled up with 9-9 versus K-Q shortly afterwards. It was a bittersweet moment, with echoes of the KQ TT flip, as the board came with 2 . He won the flip this time though and now back up to 4-5k or so, he had a shot at getting back into it. He raised UTG with A-T and was called, seeing an A-8-4 flop. His opponent bet 1k and Graham now re-raised an additional 2k, leaving 1k back...... "I felt he was weak so I did my best to get him to call"....

His plan worked to perfection as his opponent called, and on the 8 turn Graham and his opponent got his last 1k in, only to find he had suffered a cruel beat with his opponent holding K-8.

A shame that his EPT adventure is over, Graham nonetheless seemed to have enjoyed his time and felt that he played well. Jen has a picture of the perennially smiling Graham to post up shortly.

Yes - here he was, still cheerful in defeat, but cursing Serial Limper (mildly) and big buy-in tournaments in general.  "I'd rather play eight €1k events..." Well, stop qualifying for them online then!

Pictured (a) reliving the sad moments of defeat

(b) Remembering he's a naturally cheerful guy with a whole exciting week in Dortmund to look forward to

Graham was disappointed to be knocked out in the first day, not just because it signalled the end to his efforts to become an EPT champ but also as the satellite package he had won to get here, meant he would be stuck in Dortmund, which is a fairly quiet industrial town, for the next few days.

Jen, ever the unwitting comedian, tried to console him...

Graham "Yeh I'm stuck here for the next few days, not sure what I'll do...."

Jen : "Don't do all your money on roulette. Have a walk round the forest!"

[This creepy forest...

...]

Hmmmm, so his choices(according to Jen) are...gamble a shed load of money OR get savaged by the wild bears/ evil blair witch lookalikes within the forest

I doubt the Samaritans will be asking for a copy of Jen's CV anytime soon Smiley
