And if it is, what can be done about it?

Folding in turn to a check!!

Say someone is playing a final, 3 people left in. 2 brothers (mates etc) and matey boy, matey boy checks brother 1 folds, this surely gives a huge advantage to brother 2. The rules do not state anything about it, and it seems to be very common. There is no way to prove collusion, but something is amiss, the only thing I can think of is spirit of the game.

Any suggestions?

Difficult, he may want to muck his hand as he knows he is beat and will be called if bet at, he may have been "at it" and wants to hide the evidence.

but this could be in any situation, ie brother 1 on bb post flop, only the blinds in.

i.e matey boy is short stacked brother 2 is well stacked, he is basically inviting him to go  head to head without fear of losing any more chips

like robert said it is differcult i folded online in turn to a check because i was basically playing the board and didnt want to show what crap i had been playing. if it 2 mates then it looks suspicious but i dont think you can do alot about it.

I find it funny that it is acceptable on the net as well, "are you sure you would like to fold" WTF this just eliminates threats

I think this is fine, I fold sometimes when I have the option to check , especially when i have pushed too far with a "marginal " holding an dits clear my opponent has me beat. I usually let the clock run down online tho Cheesy

I wouldn't call it cheating, also I would never fold with the option to check because hows this.........

In a STT yesterday had big stack, started playing tilt.

I had      Flop is   two spades I bet 200 into a 400 pot gets called by 1, bet another 200 on turn,    check river  think about going all in  as he only has about 300 chips left and he checked to me, or mucking them  but I just check. He shows

I win with 2 pairs jacks and 4's 9 high!!!

The whole table was laughing Cheesy

Hes not done anything wrong realisticly, even though it looks suspicious in certain circumstances, Robert was correct in saying it could be to avoid showing his filth.
Although if he was last man to speak after the river card,  he is unable to fold to a check.

surely if the short stack is committed then folding so that the chipleader can have a go without damaging his chips, in fact telling him that you are not calling ,trapping by folding. Then this is outside the ethics of the game?

If you have got filth you can dump your cards when action will cost you pre river?

In effect it is not acting out of turn, it is however ending your game out of turn.

No, you will find a lot of players will do this prior to the showdown, so they dont have to show their filth.

I am not advocating a change in rules, this is how poker is played generally, and i am not saying that your filth cant be dumped, its just that in three way action an unneedless fold of cards now indicates that he only has to beat 1 person, you cant have been trap checking cuz you've now passed. Now he raises with anything without fear of it costing him anymore. That fear of a trap check should still be there. If he does decide to bet you can now pass properly at the right time.

I understand your argument dik9 , but he doesnt want to take the risk in the last player checking so he has to show his cards.
I cant speak for the guys in question, so its up to you if you think they are doing a moody, but technically hes done nothing wrong. Morally is a different case Wink

I never understand folding a free check online.  Even if you're at it with filth, there is still a chance your opponent is too and your 7 high is good Smiley

Offline is a different matter.  I'd accept it as a mistake or from a new player but, repeated incidents would just be too suspect IMO.

Has this occured often at Broadway, dik9?

It happens all the time everywhere I've worked, but it was bought to my attention in a game I was playing.
