What a F'ing donkey.

First he bets on America to win the Ryder cup (stupid stupid stupid)  and then he sues Willy Hill for allowing him to bet after he closes his account that he holds in a difefrent name?

Verdict; Take some responsibility, be a man and get over it .

i dont know what will happen to online gambling if he wins this test case. you just never know with a jury,i just wonder if the money came out of the same bank account he used before his account was closed,if it has,William Hill have slipped up badly and a case could be made ,i still think he is an idiot but the courts may have sympathy for him ,

I've got a friend who pulled this same trick on 2 online poker sites, i.e asked them not to let him use his poker account, then used it a week later, lost about £600 and complained and they gave him his money back and closed his account!!!!

Why on the bbc news front page is there a picture of some cards, at no point in the story does it mention losses on baccarat, poker or any other card game.

The cynic in me thinks the bbc wants to make readers think cards and gambling in the same thought.

I suppose the other explanation could be that the bbc have no pictures of golfers or horses.

Bit harsh and incorrect going by the link posted.
He opened another account in the same name and continued gambling.
I think Will Hills should take some liability but ultimately he could/would have found elsewhere to bet had they done what they actually proposed to do.
Sad case i know a few people with bad gambling problems, one ruined his life and will never be clear of the people he owes money to.

yeah indeed..he opened the account in the same name. According to the article he also went into bookies with bags of cash though after he asked to get banned...how is the bookie supposed to stop someone that compulsive.

if a compulsive gambler asks for his account to be closed, then secretly opens another account and wins a fortune, has william hill got the right to claim the money back ,i dont think they would have the right to claim money back.
a question which should be asked in court is if a gambler is a regular winner, he has his betting account closed by the bookie, i would like to know if they use the same system to safeguard themselves from these winners who they have barred from putting bets on to stop the compulsive gamblers from putting there bets on,

A bookie doesn't have to honour bets.

Things have changed a bit since The Gambling Act 2005 came into force last september.

Bookmakers have a duty of care to prevent problem gamblers. If a customer chooses to exclude themselves they can do so for a 6 month period and the company should do all in their power to prevent the customer from placing bets.

If a customer bars themselves from shops it could be fairly hard to police this rule but should be fairly easy to control for telephone betting. If he didn't try and pretend he was someone else then Hills could have caused themselves a bit of a problem here.

The thing I find most interesting is that he earned £30k a month training greyhounds. I might start doing this. It cant be that hard to make them run fast. Easy money

Thanks to Fatshaft.

http://www.sunderlandecho.com/news/Greyhound-trainer-on-gun-charges.3224183.jp

A greyhound trainer has been charged with possessing firearms and class A drugs after a police search of his home.
Detectives executed a warrant at a Houghton farm where they are alleged to have retrieved two guns after an intelligence-led operation.
Graham Calvert Jnr, 29, of Sedgeletch Road, has now been remanded in custody after appearing in court.
The trainer made national headlines just weeks ago over reports he was suing bookmaker William Hill because they would not stop him from placing bets, despite losing hundreds-of-thousands-of-pounds in savings.
The bookmaker
s are contesting his claim, with the case set for trial at the High Court next spring.
Police searched a property at Sedgeletch Farm eight days ago where they allegedly discovered the weapons and a quantity of drugs.
Calvert appeared before Houghton Magistrates' Court on Monday, facing two charges of possession of a firearm without a certificate and one charge of possessing Class A drugs.
A police spokesman said: "We consider the removal of any firearms to be paramount to the protection of the public.
"We will continue to carry out operations to remove weapons and we hope this sends out a suitable message."
The case against Calvert was adjourned and he has been remanded in custody. He will next appear before Newcastle Crown Court on Monday, October 1.
One Houghton resident, who asked not to be named, said: "There was a lot of police activity around the place last Friday. "

the guy is a donkey, much like the horses he must have backed.

I am always surprised by the stupidity of people like this. Losing 2.1mill gambling, it's a joke! Why not spend a bit more time studying the form and all that when you place 30k bets.
