OK, so the other week I uninstalled Nortons Security 2004 and dowloaded the following:

AVG Anti virus
AVG Anti spy
AVG Anti rootkit
Zonealarm firewall

My lappie speeded up immensely at first, but now seems not quite upto optimum speed. Fine I think, as my AVG is doing lots of work for me. Anyway, so I get an e-mail from Zonealarm offering a free security check.

I basically take it and my lappie fails on quite a few fronts, but passes on a few others. It tells me one aspect is critical (overall) and my internet protection is low.

It then offers me Zonealarm securitysuite and Iolo system mechanic for a combined price of $49.99. It actually comes to 34 gbp...so straight away I'm not happy with their currency conversion!

Anyway, is this stuff worth dowloading in place of AVG? Or is it just Zoneaalarm scaremongering/marketing at work?Huh?

Anti-virus and a firewall is all you need.  The spyware stuff is usually unnecessary and just use common sense with what you install.

I use something called Spyware Doctor, which I purchased for a minimal fee. That does all of my spyware checks, which is a very serious thing to worry about. Even simply browsing means you pick up a lot of nasty things in your computer.

I recommend you use AVG anti-virus and occasionally a spyware program. Don't be fooled into buying extras.
