He was a busy bee yesterday, and nothing seems to have changed today for Mick Stephens. This was cooler than a Arctic gale though, Mick's Jacks in the big blind running into the Pocket Cowboys of Robbie Power (yes, Nicky's brother) in the small. An ineffective 8c-8s-5d-2c-3s board later, and it was double up time for the shortstacked Power who now jumps up to 12k.

------------

You've heard of David versus Goliath, well this was the lesser known David versus David battle. With David Boyle raising it up to 3k from late position, an in-need-of-a-double-up David Bury pushed from the big blind for just 4,425 more. Although it seemed like an instacall, Boyle seemed pained in his decision, if only because it would leave him with just several thousand if he were to lose the pot. But it was too few too call, and he eventually threw in the chips with Ac-4h, seemingly aware that he was already dominated. And he was right, as Boyle revealed the Big Slick, which went on to survive a 5c-8h-3d-As-Jh board.

With 69 players left, we've suffered a few inevitable early exits, but the storm seems to have calmed now. My recent venture into the battlefield saw a couple of all-ins, but no knockouts. After Alex Collyer's all-in re-raise from the small blind went uncontested, I overheard action from the far table, Waterford Autumn Festival finalist Anthony Lynch getting it all-in from the button with and finding action in the form of big stacker Colin Reville and his . Colin didn't see overjoyed about calling, but call he did, and a harmless later and he was left with a small dent in his stack.

Photos should be on their way shortly, but as I upload them into our gallery, action from the nearest table makes me pounce from my seat like a starved panther as Neill Kelly announces an all-in encounter between Joe Gallacher and Irish Open finalist Nicky Power. All-in with , Joe was in need of assistance against Nicky's .

Flop =

"Give him the Queen," demands Nicky Power, possibly implementing the old reverse psychology techniques.

Turn =

River =

I personally didn't notice at first, but an eagle-eyed Neill Kelly spotted the split pot, and a tap on the table from Power later and it was chop chop time. Gallacher survives, some might say.

Bops is the latest exit from the Blonde Poker Waterford Team Event. Holding   , his shortstack needed to be stregnthened before he could be bop bop bopping again. His all-in push over an initial raiser was folded back to the raiser who called showing   . No     emergency card came and Bops was twist it/push it/spin it/bopping (anybody know what top I'm getting at? Okay pics to follow) his way to the rail. Team captain Keith Cummins has also been eliminated we are just hearing.

Richie Lawlor fans (I'm one-he's my pick) will be happy to hear he has just landed a monster pot with   . The action was as follows. Connie O' Sullivan raised to 3100 on the button with    only to be 3 bet by Lawlor to 13500. Connie then makes the psuh all-in to 38,000 total only to by instantly called by the team "fish with chips" captain. An unhappy O Sullivan says "that's one of the verfy few hands you can call with their" as he shakes his head looking into thin air.

The board of       means Connie O Sullivan is short stacked and Lawlor rocks on to over 80,000 chips.

Damien Kent is the latest casualty. He pushed with Pocket Snowmen on a 5-6-J Flop but was snapcalled by Pocket Kings which survived the raggy Turn and River.

"I'm off to the pub to get drunk," he exclaims. Fair enough.

------------

Keith Cummins is OUT. All-in with versus Dan Bolton's , the was about as bad as it gets, Keith in need of one of three Tens.

Turn =

river =

Like a true gent, Keith shook his man's hand and wished him luck as he departed. If he was wearing a hat, I'm sure he would have tipped it.

"If you're going to get sucked out," comments Nicky Power, "then that's the way to do it."

On their backs, James Looby would have been quietly confident at his chances of eliminating neighbour Adam Murphy, his Eights in great shape against Adam's Sixes. But after the dealer popped out a 7d-4s-Js-3s board, the inevitable oohs were swiftly followed by a Ks on the River to give Adam a cheeky flush (that's a lot of runners!). He didn't realise it at first, but when it dawned on him, he could only exclaim, "Oooooh, fecking hell." A man of few words.  :D

Remember the infamous David versus David battle from earlier that is sure to replace the less exciting one in the Bible? Well, they were at it again, this time David Boyle the one looking to hit to survive. Standing from his seat in anticipation of his exit, Boyle and his Pocket Threes looked positively doomed as David Bury revealed the yeeeeeeehaaaaaaa Pocket Cowboys, but a Three on the Flop led to yelps of almost orgasmic delight as Boyle celebrated with onlooker Wes Farrell. Meanwhile, his dejected opponent could only look on helplessly as the Kingless Turn and River... ahem... buried his chances of taking the pot.

----------

Bryan 'Mr Illegible' Stott probably wishes he'd misread his hand, as his A-9 just lost out to Dave Master's A-T to send him hurtling towards the rail.

Bad news for team Richie Lawlor. Junior member and budding milkybarkid Lorcan Dooley got tangled in a pot with Flipper Walsh.

On a shakey board of  flipper bets out for 5000, Lorcan then moves all-in creating a 40,000 pot.

Turn is a

River is a  meaning fFipper catches up and Dooley is OUT.

She's not just standing up to stretch her legs, no siree, because Margaret Mahony is a gonna, snipered down by Dave Masters in seat 1. With her looking for a third six to defeat Master's , an alternative escape route formed in the form of a flush draw on the Flop, but however hard she willed out that fourth spade, it simply wasn't to be, the Turn and River resulting in dropped shoulders and a distinctly disappointed trundle over to the rail.

----------

Some latest chip counts

Matt Dobbins 67,000
Vera Duffy OUT
Mick Stephen 14,000
Rory Brown 27,000
Dan Bolton 48,000
Richie Lawlor 78,000
Ollie St John 75,000
Dave Masters 41,000
Anthony Lynch 89,000

They've gone bad beat mad here in Waterford, and one of the most shocking, or amusing depending on how you look at it, outdraws thus far was dealt out by this man, Colin Fardey (please correct my spelling if that is off target). With Dave Mahoney making it 3k pre-flop, Colin pushed all-in from the big blind, only to be looked up by Pocket Nines and subsequently forced to reveal his er... slightly under-the-cosh 3-2 off suit.

However, it's a funny old game as Jimmy Greaves once said (although I'm not sure he was referring to poker at the time), and after a 3-T-Q-3-5 board slammed against the felt, it was ouches, ooohs and aaahs all around as Colin scooped a perhaps undeserved pot. Dave, meanhwile, was a good sport in painful defeat, calmly saying "no problem" when Colin frantically apologised before exhaling deeply and announcing, "time for a cigarette break" I think.

-----------

Also having his testicles crunched by the Poker God driven steam roller is poor Sean O'Sullivan. I joined the action very late in the day (well, so late in fact that the board had been dealt, David Browne was raking in the pot and Sean was close to tears), but after conferring with my secret source, it would appear that it was an all-in pre-flop jobby with Browne's Fives looking for a third five to topple O'Sullivan's Sevens.

Although that set didn't arrive, the good ol' runner runner back-door-up-the-exit-hole straight did make a guest appearance, Browne surviving by the very skin of his teeth on a cruel 4-3-7-8-6 board.

-----------

There are currently 46 players remaining out of the initial 124 entries. We are on level 11 with the blinds at 600/1,200 with a running ante of 100. The average stack is 41,413, and in 15 minutes the blinds will rise to 800/1,500 (100).

As I write that, it is announced that Mick Stephens is the latest exit.

After a plucky display, Pat Keneally (left) has finally departed. With neighbour John Burke (centre) putting Pat all-in on a Flop, Pat made a brave and correct call with , to see that his Ace high had John's pipped. However, he had to avoid not only the King, but also one of nine spades, one of which turned up to the dance on the River. An academic River and Pat was sent packing.

-----------

In other news, Kevin Keown has joined the ever-increasing list of daisy pushers, his swan song coming in the form of a Big Slick versus Kings confrontation against Dave Mahoney. Dave raised it up to 3.6k, Kevin made it 12k, Dave pushed for an extra 13k and Kevin called. No help and he was gone.

In the aftermath/post-morten, Kevin recalled a previous hand in which he had Kings versus Nines versus a shortstacks A-T. He fended off the Nines to win a sidepot, but a Ten on the Flop and another on the River cost him what he claimed would be a crica 50k pot and great chance of taking this comp by the scruff of the neck.

---------

Colin Fardy eliminates Tom O'Sullivan, K-Q vs. A-J, 3-5-4-8-Q board.

18-year old Roison Gough, playing in her very first tournament, is now out. And if there's anything that's going to break you into poker and give you an idea of the highs and lows to expect, then it's a good old fashioned counterfeiting.

Team fish with chips member Mick Doran has just got a timely double up. I say timely as his reaction of "now we can play lads" suggests this was the pot he has been waiting for as he now has 82,000.

On a flop of  Two Diamonds     David Brown instantly goes all-in. Doran goes into the tank for a brief few seconds before announcing "call".

The turn     and river    means David Brown is now OUT and we are down to 27 players

One player who always seems to go deep in these events is Nicky 'Stewey' Power. Although Dan Bolton is your current chip leader, Stewey isn't too far away, his latest encounter seeing what I believe must have been a circa 125k pot go sailing his way. With the board reading , all the chips flew in with Joe Gallacher's in dyer need of a miracle Ace on the River against Stewey's . Gallacher's expression told it all really, and he never appeared confident of spiking that dramatic Bullet as the River threw out a brick in the form of the . Monster monster pot, as one annoying football agent might say.
