Indeed, maybe.
But you obviously missed mine
There was some ?
However, I did not miss your lack of grammar, I believe your statement should read thus -
"I would
have
thought the question was obvious."
Indeed, but even your superb intelect grasped what I was saying - even with incorrect grammar.
Grammar is
overrated
you know

Why shouldn't he be in the army? Generations of Royals have served in the forces, I don't see why Harry shouldn't be allowed, and as such, he should be able to go to war for his country if he so wishes.
I appreciate he's not your average person, but he should still be able to go if it's what he wants and the army are happy to have him on board.
I disagree.
The added risk to the unit , or operation they are carrying out is HUGE beacuase of who HE is.
I said he shouldnt be allowed in the army as he cannot perform the necessary duties that he was trained for - at the expense of the tax payers. That money could of been far better used in training someone who can actually DO the job he is trained to do.
Fair point?
PS , Im sure Mr Grammar/Spelling will be along to correct my post in due course

It's a fair point, but I am on the other side of the coin from you.
I think having a Royal that is prepared to do duty such as go to war for his country is a great sign of leadership and would command more respect when his time comes for a higher purpose within the Family. I would think that the morale of the troops he was with would be upped by him being there along side them. I don't see why he shouldn't be able to follow whatever career he wants to do. He should be allowed to do the job he's been trained for, he didn't join the army for a jolly, he did it because it means something to him, surely that's more respectable than sitting on his arse being regal.
The press put his unit in danger, not Harry, he's been there weeks without it being reported and it was all good. Now the whole world knows he's there and now it's an issue - the press are to blame not Harry.
What do you think he should be doing?
I have huge respect for both Harry and William because they are not like the other Royals. They are both inspiring people that do massive amounts of great work in whatever fields they feel they want to get involved with.

Both good posts with valid reasons.
This is something that has been handed through the generations, most Royals do spend some what seems to be obligatory time in one of the forces.
The difference here is that Harry has chosen not to take the easy option of doing courses/desk jobs for the majority of his time in service.......I say well done to him. Edward tried it as a Marine but by all accounts couldn't cut it. Andrew was a Navy pilot and risked his live during one daring rescue during the Falklands War (an act that he and the Royal family played down.)
However, Paul's points are equally as valid, in this day and age of media coverage it is very hard to disguise the fact that a young Royal is on active service and does increase the potential dangers to the Unit he is attached to.
The Government/Royal family did not try to hide this from the media but did ask that they not report on it whilst he was serving there, specifically for above reasons and possibly some Political ones too. it was the foriegn media who leaked this story. During his tiime in Afghanistan the media have had access to him so that on his return the public may be made aware of his contribution. Like his mother, this young lad has decided to take action and not like so many of them just talk.
Interesting to see also that he has a team of Ghurkas as his protection, reasons:
These guys hold a huge respect for our Royal family and our Armed forces and could be relied upon not to start sending messages hone to friends and family about their Royal companion, unfortunately that would not be true for too many "British" squaddies.
A Ghurka soldier is more likely to give his life in the protection of not only any Royal or other dignatery (sp), but for any British citizen in his line of duty
They are tuff little feckers.
It's the politicians I want to see being forced to take a stint with the forces and do some active service, then lets see how easily they support any future unjustifiable campaign.

Having watched the Ross Kemp series I am in awe of anyone who is in the services.
Harry had the option to bail out and not go at all but he wanted to go, good for him, as long as the other side didn't know he was there I don't think there was any increased risk to the rest of the team.
I think the (foreign) media should be ashamed for compromising his safety, just like they did on the night Diana died.

I am avoiding the news for a few days until the Prince Harry story goes away. Today at work I picked up a newspaper during Lunch and found that the first nine pages were reporting on Prince Harry. I would love to live in a UK with no Royalty, it baffles me how they are worshiped by people. At my lunch table the talk turned to Prince Harry and the general feeling was he was a hero...... I can't understand this, I think the heroes are the regular soilders over there for months at a time

I'm not anti royal, i'm not pro royal either, neither do i have an opinion on the war. i don't even have a prob with Harry going, good luck to him. My prob is why the media circus? Sky news had cameras following him ( with his knowledge) interviews on his camp, nice pictures of him eating from a tin and sitting on his bed drinking. interviews in the newspapers, reports of how he spoke with his girlfriend and that got him through it, and the best bit, his brother telling him that his mum would have been proud. The final straw was how daddy & granny were informed on a daily basis of his progress etc. Are all these facilities available to a normal officer serving in a war?
It just grates with me that he is being portrayed as a real hero, when we dont even know how much front line activity he actually took part in, the scene of him firing a gun looked so false. I hope in years to come it doesnt prove to be a publicity stunt.

Would probably agree with this, it's all spin and it's boring viewing.

My point seems to have been missed though.
WHO pays for his training in the Army? - A job he can NEVER do (rightly or wrongly)
Someone, somewhere has missed out on that training.
