I'm thinking of going on holiday there for a week on account of a few thin stories that it's 'nice'.

Anyone been and happy to share some of their experiences ?

Thanks

One thing to bear in mind is that there is A LOT of building work going on there at the moment. If you are going to stay at a hotel , its best to check its not next to a building site!
ie. I noticed a good deal on lastminute recently, but if you check on the hotel (www.tripadvisor.co.uk)..staying there is a nightmare at the moment!

Im hoping to get a new job over there for the next 3 years, been there twice, its such a mad place, parties, man made beaches, natuaral beaches, 5* hotels and some mad buildings.

Mate of mine has a 3 bed apartment, private pool, with a team of workers you can employ for the week for £750 quid if that is of interest.

One thing I would suggest, go to the party part, not the business part oh and dont take much clothing. But it when your there, lacoste polo's £10, all designer stuff costing nothing more than £20 max, before it gets shipped of to the UK, oh and if you need a new suit, you looking between £7-£20. Only thing that can get expensive is your food and drink, depending on what your into

I went to dubai a few years ago for a mates birthday(never really fancied it but its one of the top destinations for people at british airways with staff travel)and i have to say i was more than pleasantly surprised. The hotels are excellent with staff to match, the beaches in fact everything is immaculate and you never feel anything but ultra safe. The shopping is indeed very good value for money but if your a drinker it is on the pricy side. However there is a big ex-pat community and on several nights of the week theres some kind of promotion going on in town like ladies night where women drink for free or one of the big hotels runs an all you can eat and drink for a set price, say £30 a head, the food being excellent and the drinks proper flowing.
A couple of other things, friday the whole place was shut(holy day)except the hotels, and if your with the missus dont be tempted to go into any of the "nightclubs" downtown as they are populated with hundreds of young russian ladies(it seems like a popular destination for them) but thats a whole other trip report.

I stayed at Dubai for a 3-4 day stop over and enjoyed our break there. Hotel was fantastic and restaurants available had enough to choose from. Not a place to go to find bargains unless you are in to designer gear. Personally I would go back, but don't think i would want a break for longer than a week.
