Anyone tried repairing there own laptop?
I have a HP Pavilion DV8000 and the screen is continuosly flickering, if i flex the screen it cures the problem, until i let go again.
i suspect there is a crack in a solder joint or broken ribbon cable,,
before i take it to bits i was wondering if anyone had any experience mending this type of thing?

Cheers

Had the same problem with a Dell.  Screen flickered, and sometimes went dead, flex it about a bit and it would be fine, for a while, and then flicker again. I think it was broken wires in the ribbon cable or the attachment.

I took it apart to get to the connector to see if I could secure it, and the screen stopped working completely.

I must post a pic of my lappy sometime:

removed the screen (bust, attached to a monitor)
removed the keyboard (spilt water on it, on screen keyboard)

Cheesy

To answer the question though there is not usually a ribbon connector but proper wires, easy repair if it's a dodgy connection BUT be careful when opening a lappy, usually there is a scew underneath holding the keyboard, remove the keyboard to reveal screws for the housing.

Wow,
Great find Dino, Thanks very much!
That helps a lot, I used to repair tvs etc for a living a fair few years ago and service manuals are invaluble, i had checked hp site but no luck.
Think i will have a go at repairing this on Sunday.
