An essential part of my business equipment - one of the loos - has broken at the clinic. Apparantly it's the syphon (?) which makes the water go into the loo from the cistern. It's a close coupled loo.

Any idea how much this should cost to do? I'm getting a lot of plumbers on the phone taking sharp intakes of breath and the longer the breath the more it seems to cost. What would be reasonable and any idea how long it should take?

Thanks,

Tracey

depending on what type of loo it is syphons can vary in price from £5 to £30 (ish) labour would take no longer than an hour maximum so id say anything over £100 then no way but you should be able to get it done for about £50 gl

Don't Plumbers learn how to deal with their own plumbing during apprenticeship ?

TY - I managed to get it done for £75. He showed me the diaphragm which was shot to pieces, so I'm not sure if he just replaced that bit or the whole unit. It still doesn't flush first go, it needs two gos and then it's wonderful. Not sure if that's ok or not?

Perhaps I've spent too much time watching expose programmes on bad workmen but I was concerned he was spending a lot of time in there and not doing a lot. But he was out within an hour so I suppose it must have been ok..?

Anyway thanks for the advice, I managed to negotiate based on that so I owe you a drink. TY

I had that problem when I still ate a lot of curries...it just wouldn't flush in one go.

Tracey

No it should flush 1st time,if its the old type of diaphragm it would only have cost about 20p but at least the poo will be happy now its going to be recycled into drinking water.
