TOTTENHAM have pulled off a sensational transfer coup by landing Croatia superstar Luka Modric after reaching a deal believed to be over £20million with Dinamo Zagreb.
SunSport can exclusively reveal that Spurs have won the race to sign Modric and beaten competition from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan had an £18.5million bid rejected by the Croatian club yesterday afternoon before Spurs upped the ante to land the star.
A top Dinamo source told us late last night: “Everything has been agreed and Modric will be going to Tottenham. All the details are in place and the fee is £20m.”
Modric will sign a five-year deal with Tottenham. The deal is believed to be a club record fee for Spurs whose previous record was the £16.5 signing of Darren Bent from Charlton last summer.
Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City were all linked with moves for Modric as were Barcelona, Inter and Bayern Munich.
It is a masterstroke for boss Juande Ramos who has landed a truly wonderful player who is expected to shine for Croatia in Euro 2008.

Ship the world class midfielder imo.

Hopefully we can swap Berbatov for Ronnie + £££'s and then we will be quite ok.

Certainly a better club transfer record than the old one! Quality footballer, the only question being how long it'll take for him to adapt to the prem and if the physical hide will suit him.

Great signing for Spurs, I thought we might have signed him. It seems Spurs have got in early.

Cant see this happening but it does look like Berbertov could be on his way   http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_3480255,00.html

Wouldn't mind Arsene getting the chequebook out.

Pretty sure this will be a good signing.  I just want to see as many quality players joining the Premiership as possible this summer.

Hoping to see David Villa pop up somewhere.

Heard rumours linking Berbatov with Bayern Munich.

Nemisis    Looks like Ramos will bring in and ship out a few players in the off season. Who do you think/would like to be on the move?

Who I think: Robinson, Cerny, Gardner, Stalteri, Lee, Rocha, Malbranque, Tainio, BAE, Chimbonda

Who I hope: Zokora, Dawson, Keane*

Who could leave: Lennon, Jenas, Berbatov**, Huddlestone, Boateng.

Who could arrive: Amelia, Arshavin, Capel.

* very unlikely but I think he is wank.

** word is that Modric signed under the guarantee that Berbatov will be here next season...

8 guys out 4 guys in. Does the squad need a cull. What chances do you give of a top 4 finish next year. Im convince next year will be the most open in premiership history and the top 4 will be broken.

The only way the top 4 will be broken is if one of them has a really bad season ( which i can't see) rather than any of the others making significant progress, too many teams flatter to decieve despite spending millions every year imo.

Berbatov definitely going...

Quote
from a man that spoke to Ramos in person.

"berbatov is going at the end of the season 100%"

club have 3 overseas bids in for him and spurs want to deal with these 3 only.

Sorry chaps i was clinging to the hope as much as any one but i know where i got this info from and it would now seem nailed on to me

Juventus, Milan and one other team...

Barcelona since both Ronaldhino (to be sold) and possibly Henry (unhappy at Barca as he can't settle in and hardly ever sees his kid) are leaving?

This person speaks spanish then?!

It will be interesting to see where he goes. If he wants to win the Champions league I don't think he should be going to either of those two. The third has to be Barca or Real.

The transfer window this summer could be the biggest ever, at least for the EPL.

I was disappointed we didn't get him but he's unproven in a quality league and is a risk at that price and normally when the toon take risks it never seems to work 4 us.Also his physical stature would worry me.

This summer will be biggest spend ever but a think it's been a record the last few years.Teams like everton villa and man city all seem they're going to spend a lot so do think this summer will be huge tranfer market.
