Rent it out to friends and family to recoup some of the cost! No-brainer IMO!
The Landlord won't give a fig if it sits empty, he already has his money. You signed an agreement which means he also doesn't have to refund you.
Don't charge the earth (though I don't think you would), just work out what your rent would be per week and adjust if you feel the need (personally I'd be willing to take a bit of a hit in pocket in this department).

lol sorry hun.,.,.,
me and mel just had a chat and we will try to find someone who wants to rent it for the next 5 months for a silly, silly price,
here goes to who seen the post,
detached villa in cyprus kapparis area east side,
2 bedroom both on suite and wc down stairs sleeps 4-6 sofa bed downstairs too,hot tub in garden 200 meters from the beach.....
they call this road millionaires row as most of the villas are over £1,000,000.,..,.,..,
here goes with the knockdown price for the next 5 months rental
£2,000 ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
it cost me just over £6,000,,,get it gone blonde,,,,,,,,,,,if anyone wants pics let me know...,.,

we have moved 150 yards to a 4 bed 4 bathroom det villa
with a big pool, and the sea right on our back garden fantastic views....
you can see the sea from the other villa but this is bigger and we needed more room for when friends stay, the other villa was fab just a bit too small, and when you move here to this area everything looks fantastic, but after a while you allways want the bigger and better one lol,,,,
