Tonight for my tea I had a Ginsters Mexican Style Spicy Chicken Pasty...sounds and looks yummy.

Aromas wafted around the kitchen and I really looked forward to tasting this for the first time.

I cut it into nice bite size pieces so I can eat with 1 hand while playing poker :-) and choose a nice juicy middle bit for my first taste.

Arrrrrrrrggghhhhhh..burnt my tongue again but yes it has a nice spicy taste so I tuck in.

I get to the 5th mouthful when I realise something alien is in my mouth..im not sure what it is but it has a soft texture and is deffo not a bean....its a fookin RAISIN...in a PASTY!!!

SO WRONG!!!

It's not a raisin. Its an Achiote seed, used to give taste and enhance the colour of the pasty for aesthetic effect.

you are welcome.

The small hard achiote seed, which is also called the annatto seed. It is prized in Indian and Hispanic cuisine for its slightly bitter, earthy flavor and russet color.

A raison it ain't

Im telling you...it was a RAISIN

Cornish THROUGH AND THROUGH.

FRESH BRITISH CHICKEN WITH PEPPERS, ONION, TOMATO AND RED CHILLIES. WRAPPED IN DELICIOUS SHORTCRUST PASTRY. MADE IN CORNWALL!
San Carlos 5192 via St. Ives.

A TASTE OF MEXICO FROM CORNWALL.

Our chef Graham has created this pasty right here in Cornwall. He fills it to the brim with fresh tasty British chicken with peppers, onion, tomato and red chillies. He doesn't add any artificial stuff. So you get the best of both worlds: a delicious Mexican style recipe made the Ginsters way.

And when Graham's happy he's packed in as much flavour as he can, we shove the pasty in the oven. Just like you do at home. Well almost. Because Graham and the team have to make thousands every day.

Take a look at our website. It has lots more info. And it makes noises. www.ginsters.co.uk
