"As a result of the long, grueling day, many of the player began to complain. While the tournament staff sympathized with their current situation, they could do nothing about it due to the ESPN filming schedule. ESPN is filming a set number of events here at the Rio, and tommorow's $1,500 event final table is one of them. While some of the players may have enjoyed their chance to be in the spotlight, others were busy griping about the hour and the late-night rail that had gathered around them."

i heard james akinhead was in the last 18 of a 1500 event & went to check it out on the cardplayer site - apparently they played til 6am....i know it's gone on before & doubt it will ever stop but think it's pretty appalling that the tv dweebs get to call the shots when so much is at stake.
they wouldn't be seeing my hole cards.

Yep, I was reading the coverage on Pokernews, and apparently multiple votes were taken, with the majority in favour of playing on until they reached 18, when finally the majority were in favour of passing out, probably.  No mention (at least in the last three pages of updates) of the filming restrictions being the primary cause... but that sounds plausible and bad.

They get from 6am until 1:30pm off and then have to come back and start again.  I hope James doesn't need a lot of sleep.

In their defence, it's fair to say that stamina is considered a prerequisite for successful WSOP players, and this situation is unlikely to change with so many player entries and so many tournaments scheduled.

In '06 the ludicrous scheduling of the $50k HORSE event meant that they played until something like 11am on Day 1, before coming straight back that afternoon (I know how long that felt because I was reporting on it).  My respect for Doyle Brunson rose another notch as he displayed the sort of stamina the rest of the field half his age was struggling to produce, but honestly I don't feel like he should have had to.  You pay that sort of money for an event, and your physical stamina shouldn't be the main thing tested, imo, past reasonable parameters.

And then on day two they played to stupid o'clock too which meant the final table started at 9pm that night instead of 2/4pm. This is turn meant that by the time the heads up between Reese and Bloch (all seven hours of it) was watched by more poker media than spectators. I have no idea what time it finished as I bailed at about 6a.m as I had a flight to catch.

Is it true that the FT of the $50k HORSE was changed from HORSE to Hold'em?

Sorry to jack the thread
