WTF is going on in athletics?

Usain bolt breaks the mens 100m world record after only he's 5th competitive 100m race!

he also ran 9.76 in one of he's previous 100m races, traditionally a 200m runner who's been on the scene for a couple of years  it's a tad suspicious that a 200m plodder all of a sudden runs the two fastest times in history in he's first 5 races!

I dont really like to come to these conclusions but steroid abuse seems to be endemic in athletics these days and i love athletics, I've always done well on it as a sports betting format and love watching it but it's starting to really piss me off now when you get someone like usain bolt come along and start destroying the records you just cant help but think he's cheating, sigh!

What gets on my nerves is that drug use has become almost expected in athletics over the the last decade i dont think there will ever be an occasion where something extraordinary hapends like this and you're not inclined to automatically think something underhanded has gone on and feeling like that spoils the whole sport for me, it doesn't help when the circumstances are so unbelievable as in this guys case and it's a shame that because of all whats gone on with the sprinters that there will always be a level of scepticism attached to what might be one of the most amazing sporting achievements in athletics in some time.

This guy is no 200m plodder - he was running 200m circa 19.9 in 2004, when they said he ran bends too quick and was losing 1+ seconds a race.

The buzz around him has been about for sometime - he just does not like the 100m it seems.

He seems to have it all and should be the future of short sprint athletics.  His arrival this week should be surrounded with hype and coverage in America it has been hardly noticed, ESPN is too busy with this weeks drugs story.

The truth is drugs have ruined athletics - clean or not the benefit of the doubt has gone, I like many others cant imagine I will ever believe again.

200m runners are the fastest men on the planet - rather than the popular myth put forward by the media and promoters that the 100m men are.

The fastest anyone's ever run (I think), is Michael Johnson.  He's also said he doesn't want his relay gold medal that he won in Sydney after Pettigrew has admitted to taking drugs at the time.

Johnson was an incredible athlete, and one who I personally think was clean.  I don't think there are that many that are though unfortunately.

I think one of the reasons Johnson was so fast it that his legs are a bit 'wrong'. Normally, our knees are at the mid point between our feet and our hips, but his were either higher than usual or lower than usual which meant his running style was more efficient, or something.

Johnson was in my opinion the best athlete of all time. Not only fast but incredibly knowledgable about his sport.

Here's a thought while people talk about steroid abuse in athletics.

The mens 100m record has been cracked again. It seems to be broken fairly regularly and every time people immediately suspect that drugs have helped.

How about the women's world record? What could Flo Jo have been on 20 years ago??

It's now apparent that Marion Jones was an abuser and she couldn't get near it. How long will Flo's records stand?

It's interesting how different his running technique was from the established 'norm'.

Very similar style to the 'POSE' technique - http://www.posetech.com/pose_method/
