poo.  I just managed to spill some water on my laptop (top right hand corner).  Wiped it down and seemed ok for a minute or two, but now half the keys on the 2nd from bottom row don't work.  Is this likely to be a permanant problem, or something that should sort itself out once it's all dried out inside?

I think the best thing to do is switch it off and leave it to dry for at least a day, probably two.

Definitely take the power supply out (and the battery) and don't use it until it's thoroughly dried out.

Hairdyer is good, as long as it's on the coolest setting and not too close.

It'd be quicker to do it in the microwave though

Mrs Red makes detours just so that she can carry drinks over her lappy. I've told her and told her about it but will she listen?

It will all end in tears.

hmm, the xcv m,./ keys still not working, and starting to get concerned this could be permanent damage.  Looks like a plug in keyboard might be required.  Any techies know if these particular keys not working could help me to pinpoint/fix the damage myself?

Is this the new lappy? (iirc you not long ago got a new one...) Water won't leave trace marks, so you could always return it to the shop and say they mysteriously stopped working

If not, it sounds like you need a new keyboard (no idea of cost), most if not all are easy to replace and the instructions can usually be found either online or the manual that it came with.

Edit: just looked at the time you posted yesterday, personally I would give it a few days minimum to dry out.

I got a new keyboard for my lappy on ebay.  Cost a tenner from Hong Kong.
