So my oldest kids will need entertaining when we fly for our holiday this September, Now I have been looking at psp's for them ( the DS are all broken ) and would love some advice.

Is the PSP slim & lite better than the standard PSP?

Which games would you reccomend.

any problems I should look out for?

as you can tell I am going to buy a couple of second hand ones.

The lite has a TV out socket - I think that's the only difference (apart from being slightly lighter and slightly slimmer...)

If you install custom firmware on a PSP you can play backups of the games without having the UMD (the propriatory Sony format) disc inserted - handy if your kids are as forgetful as mine when it comes to actually remembering to take the UMD with them or misplacing it somewhere. They can also get between 4 and 15 games on a 4GB memory stick - cuts down on the packing.

Search ebay for 'PSP M33' if you want a premodified one. If they come with a Sony 4GB memory stick included there's a 99.9% chance the stick will be fake. Budget for an extra £22 on a genuine one from amazon or mobymemory.com.

My 11- and 9-year old are currently playing Midnight Club 3 (car racing), God of War, SSX on Tour and Rainbow Six Vegas.

PS having held both, my kids say they prefer the feel of the 'fat' PSP.

I have a PSP (I admit it's mine, won't try to deny it lol) and tbh I also prefer the feel of the standard unit. I can't really recommend many games as I'm sure my kind of games will be greatly different to your kids.

It did come with Cars though, and after 18 months my 15, 12 and 7 year old all still love playing on that, oh and Sims too (but we all like that on the PC anyway).

I would recommend getting a case for it straight away as they scratch incredibly easily, the one I got was like a clear snap on cover that protected the whole front, still looks like new.

defo get a cover for the screen, various places sell packs including covers for screen, case, wrist straps(very useful to stop u dropping it, or throwing it when you can't complete a part of a game) etc. Got mine from argos, was £20 but got a free game.

Flashing is pretty straightforward. Would take 15 minutes tops if you know what you're doing. Took me 4 hours with Google to do one from a standing start of knowing nothing.

Games should work - he will have downloaded them for free. How many are old/crap/in Japanese might be interesting.
