Having just returned from the World Series, I feel my brain has been overloaded with poker. Watching 20 hours of shootout in one day, reporting seven card stud/omaha hi low events, and doing hand for hand on final - I think my head was moments away from exploding. Even when I ventured through the corridors of a day, the air would be polluted with random stories about various hands that would eventually amalgamate into one foreboding, giant sheet of smog.

In fact, come to think about it, the last two and a half years have been poker, poker, poker with some extra poker thrown in for good measure. I watch, play, work, do pretty much everything poker, and as such have allowed myself little time for anything else. In this sense, I think it's about time I got up to date with the world and gave my brain a much needed wake up call.

As a human being, I very much subsrcibe to the philosophy that we should always be looking to learn and educate ourselves. There is a world of information out there, and it's all at our fingertips with the Internet. No longer do you need to go the library to learn, all you need do is boot up your lappie. I really have no excuse.

With that in mind, I'm going to be making more of an effort to delve into the pit of knowledge that is Wikipedia and try to broaden my wisdom beyond just poker. However, where the hell do you start? I call out to you, the blonde viewers, to assist me in what I hope will be a daily dose of self-education. What should I be typing into the search? What are the issues that I should really know about? What have you found on Wikipedia that has fascinated you? Can you point me in the direction of any gems?

If anyone has any links, please post them...

My first stop is Nelson Mandella. It's the 90th birthday today of one of the world's most celebrated figures of our time, yet I know diddly squat about him, which, for someone who is meant to be educated, is pretty bad in my opinion.

Just bear in mind wikipedia is famous for it's inaccuracies, remember anyone can edit with whatever tosh they want.

Articles I have enjoyed are: The Complete History of England (with focus on pre 1066), The Colonial Expansion of Spain, Bermuda, Supanovas and Black Holes (I developed a paranoia that the sun was going to explode).
