Just some personal good news I felt like I would share (it’s pissing it down outside and there has been some crap news about recently we need cheering up), as it may be of some comfort to others in similar situations.

It’s not often people talk about infertility, some couples feel ashamed with having problems conceiving a baby. I luckily am not one of those people so a lot of my friends and family knew me and my wife were having problems.

For two years we tried naturally to have a baby, no luck so we went and saw the local doctor and were referred to the fertility clinic. After various initial tests I was told I had anti-bodies in my sperm. Ug, what does that mean? Well basically there was something wrong with my sperm being able to connect, swim, and bind whatever it was it was not good news. I was informed we could go down X, Y and Z routes to aid in conceiving. The news of this didn’t really affect me much; I was more upset for my wife who wanted kids desperately. We decided to double check our test so I got my sperm checked again (this time privately). Surprise the results for my sperm came back perfect nothing wrong detected. So the NHS made me think I was a jaffa for 6 months   I was not angry just a little relieved (no pun intended). So we were now all clear and have an appointment to start some form of IVF in two weeks (17th July 08).

From our first referral to the start planned IVF 16 months has passed.

Well we found out last week I am going to be a dad!! It was our last chance before having to go through the NHS route of IVF treatment. Our baby will be very special to us and much welcomed. Never give up  dad dont dance

After your opening statements, this line made me piss myself...

So the NHS made me think I was a jaffa for 6 months

Great news.

Congrats Acidmouse, brilliant news.
 thumbs up

I know what you have been through as we tried IVF several times (lost count) and I dread to think how much we lost trying, but must be circa £30k+.  Unfortunately it didn't work out, guess some things just aren't meant to be. One regret is that when you are going private there is more motivation for a private doctor to say try again, rather than discourage someone from trying. On the plus side we are still happily married and we have a rota system of 12 nephews and nieces who we dote on. Friends and family with kids envy our lifestyle and we envy theirs. It's a funny old world.  Wink
