the news is so depressing these days it's either domestic stabbings or suicide bombers in Iraq, one of those will be the headline if not the news will be about everyone should be miserable cos everyones skint.

I was watching the daily politics show a while back and the guy who's name escapes me now reckoned that knife crime and murders in the capital are pretty much as prevalent now as they were in the 60s for example but with more media outlets individual stories get more coverage for longer, i dont know if that's true or not so I'm not sure if I'm sick of it happening or hearing about it.

Thats pretty much spot on, crime rates do not actually increase or decrease that much in any given year (except for when a crime is reclassifed). Likewise, the so called 'asylum seeker' problem is nothing like the tabloids would have you believe, I think we are actually getting less then we did in the 80s and 90s, its just on a slow news day the papers will be full of 'this bloke aint even from ere and e got a free house' stories.

I was watching the daily politics show a while back

Thinly veiled "I switched telly on to watch neighbours, and hit wrong channel" brag post imo.
