I dunno.

There's a competitve cyclist in the women's road race and time trial that the commentator kept reminding us was 49.

How many 49 year old gymnasts do you see coming 12th in the Olympics.

Is that astonoshing?

from Ironside no....from you,yes

that was a cock up by the women's medley coaches..leave out your two fastest swimmers including Adlington and fail to qualify for the final

Wait and see how Adlington gets on in the 800 free before we right off resting her as being a cock up.

Two write!!

Sir Steve Redgrave won a Gold Medal at 5 consecutive Olympics in an endurance event.

He's in with a shout of best athlete? He was good but not the greatest?

In 1996 he was the winner of celebrity Gladiators AND he was a National champion in the 2 man bobsleigh!

Clinches it for me.

Redgrave was a team competitor, good but not a level comparison, research seems to suggest that Lewis had help from Balco or equiv.  Leaves Phelps as clear winner for me.

...
(I will concede that the medley relay is a bit of a daft event. It's like having a decathlon with a different person to do each event... wtf?)

I think the medley relay is a great event, it's not like anything in athletics because it's a swimming event.

A 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m relay medley would be fun to watch in the athletics - although the 800m would be the most important leg as the margins in the 100m and 200m will only be small.

you can do it the same way as speed skating is done. Basically the time difference at the 200m would be multiplied by 4, the time difference at the 400 by 2 and that gives you the time difference between the teams before the start of the 800.

In amateur boxing if you get put on your arse twice it's highly likely to be stopped.

Maybe Joey Barton should consider a career change?
