How positive does this sound (from Auntie Beeb):

Quote
British cyclists Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton remain on course for Olympic success after easily coming through sprint qualifying on Sunday.

Hoy, gunning for his third gold, beat fellow Brit Jason Kenny to first place as both riders set new Olympic records.

Pendleton also set a new Olympic record as she topped the women's standings.

Bradley Wiggins also has a chance of three gold medals and he helped the men's team pursuit qualify fastest for the first round later on Sunday.

He combined with Paul Manning, Ed Clancy and Geraint Thomas to comfortably outpace the opposition, finishing the 4000m event in 3:57.101.

The foursome will face Russia in the first round at 1125 BST, in a match-up that looks like a formality as Britain were nine seconds faster than their opponents in qualifying.

It only takes a crash and its curtains.

It would need 4 crashes to stop us getting another gold to be fair though.

Yeah, it was far too much for her with the amount of preparation she'd had.

Would've loved to see her have got a medal but it was never to be i don't think i've ever felt more sorry for someone than in Athens 04 it was devastating for her it's so harsh when she knows she's good enough to win as well i really hope she can win it in London but who knows she deserves a bit of luck and i hope she gets it as if she did manage to take the gold in 4 years time i'm sure both today and athens wouldn't matter anymore.Best of Luck to you Paula great effort well done.

The medals table is always shown in order of most gold medals first.

On the BBC site - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/medals_table/default.stm

On the official Olympic site - http://results.beijing2008.cn/WRM/ENG/INF/GL/95A/GL0000000.shtml

However, if you're NBC and notice that while the US is getting pwned by China in terms of gold medals, the US actually have more medals if you add all the gold, silver and bronze up, then you'll reorder it for a local audience.

More golds for Britain.  Ben Ainslie in the organised chaos wins his 3rd gold in row at the Olympics, the Ylang Ylang (or something like that) women won as well, and our lightweight sculls won in the rowing.

We now have 10 golds, and are third behind China and the USA!

We're one of the fancied teams in the women's fours in the rowing which is just starting now...

Just switched on the TV when the lightweight sculls guys were getting their medals, that is what an Olympic gold medal should mean to an athlete, one of my favourite sights in sport when you see from a sportsman/woman's expression that it means so much to them.

Couldn't agree more.  Also good to see the family enjoying it so much as well.

This looks good:

Terrific stuff, to be 3rd in the medal table is as much is realistic achievable for GB. We are easily go to break all post war records.

Does help that our cyclist's are basically owning every race in the velodrome.

Lol i have been reading the olympic thread on 2p2 and saw this.

The fact that NBC didn't show the 100m final until 13hrs after the race was run without any mention of the result, is totally ridiculous. If the bbc ever did this, it would be a total disgrace.

NBC used their muscle to get the IOC to swap the order of the swimming schedule, so all the finals were in the morning (evening in the US) whilst all the heats were in the evening in China, purely so they could show Phelps in prime time.

The US television coverage has always been horribly US-centric. If there isn't the chance of a US medal in an event it doesn't get shown.
