Right to shove?
«

Playing in the DTD £30 Scalp Tournament last night.
My image is mixed, I have mostly folded on the final table, though one of the players insists on telling everyone I was pushing with any two (this was early in tournament when short stacked and I pushed and was called with K5, KK and 88)
UTG with A7o?
6 handed, I have 13,500 chips.
Blinds 800/1600 antes 200.
Top four get paid, average stack 17,500

Your adding 3600 to your 13, 500 stack if you get it through so about 30%... You have 8+ BB's, BUT the ante's make this a push, no ante's and i'd say its a borderline decision to add 2400...
If you fold this hand and the blinds your down to around 10k leaving you little or no room to play with...

yeah I push here (though I hate pushing UTG with ace rag)..would probably also have pushed the previous unopened pot...and the one before that.

These are the horrible situatuations of when FT's become crapshoots- you know with 8x BB & 6 handed its a pretty standard push but you also realise any call and your almost always going to be behind. you obviously hope to pick up uncontested to buy yourself another round where you hope you'll get a better hand to shove in the next 6

With ante's in play I think you should be shoving a fairly wide range here, although if you suspect you are being called particularly light due to the earlier play then I guess you can tighten up slightly, but A8 is auto shove here for me.

Hi thanks for the replies.
Figured it was a shove, shoved and was called by UTG+1 with AK, ouch!

I would rather have shoved with whatever cards you had if it was folded around to you on the previous orbit on the button or any late pos.Although your utg, due to you being so short i would expect people to widing your range up seen as you are obviously desperate to take the blinds so the % of time this situation is a steal by you is higher therefore any better ace is likely to call.WP on reaching the ft though.

But we're not given this information- this opportunity you say might not have came up in earlier orbits-can only really comment in this situation, not on how we got here with 8xBB UTG

No getting away from this shove I don't think. The only problem is your range is wide here so a lot of hands are calling. Obviously you can do nothing about AK. A fold isn't horrible but prefer a shove personally.
