Boumsong - remember him? He lacks pace but is a solid defender IMO.

He certainly looked good from an SPL perspective. In Europe he wasn't shown up either, aside from one howler against Lyon if I recall correctly. I'd say he's probably good enough to play for (roughly) the seventh best team in the EPL.

wikipedia has him at Newcastle. Can we have some of the 8m?!!
Carlos Javier Cuéllar Jimenez (born 23 August 1981 in Madrid) is a Spanish footballer who currently plays for English Premiership side Newcastle United in defence, as a centre back.

Genuine bargain, will probably move on for near double that within two years. Very clean in the tackle, very few bookings for a CB, excellent reader of the game, has performed very well against some big clubs in Europe and LaLiga, will be an excellent signing for Villa. Quicker than Bandit suggests (although he's not wrong about his looks) and certainly not another Boumsong. Also a threat in the opposing penalty box and one of the best defenders I've seen in a Rangers jersey although doesn't have the leadership qualities of a Gough or Butcher. Sorry to see him go,though I fully understand why he wants to move, and I wish him all the best.

Boumsong - remember him? He lacks pace but is a solid defender IMO. Lacks pace? He's very fast for a central defender- He ran for spain at junior level and almost became an athlete instead of a pro footballer. I've watched him week in week out and reckon he's also on a different level to boumsong. I think he will be a good buy for Aston Villa

Sky Sports reports he has a release clause of E10m (c.£7.8m) which Villa's bid meets.

Time will tell on this one. I think he struggles for pace in the games I seen he was caught out a few times. The only reason he never got caught out more often IMO was because with the average age of the Ranger team being like 39 (due to 90 year olf Davie Weir) they played so deep that Cuellar was hardly ever on the back foot. As for the bookings - scottish refs ldo! I am pretty glad to see him go if I am honest he is one of only 3 Rangers players I'd give a game to in my team.

Think this is a huge signing for Villa.
Davis has issues, Knight was a stop gap.
I think the Villa squad is looking immense, yes their is potential to grow into, and reputations to prove but for me they look a real danger. Another great signing for MoN IMO.

If Cuellar can play as well for the Villains as he has for Rankgers then MON has done well and it could be a good bit of business and could be the missing piece of the jigsaw.
