Came 2nd at Luton G tonight - Edna giving me a seeing to heads-up. Other blonde names I saw there tonight, TK, Compo, Pelham Boy, Simon Galloway & familiar names like Dick lynch, Willie Tann also there.
One thing I learned tonight was that poker really is a true test of skill, very little chance involved.
Playing my A game I'd got very unlucky on a series of occasions but had managed to get my stack back up to 2.9K when down to 2 tables. Time to get busy. Some blind details may be slightly incorrect(4 Kronenbourgs, 1 glass of red wine, no coke)
A9>> AK & JJ
Shove from mid with A9, big stack button calls, big stack BB calls.
Flop 2,4,5 - BB bets into the side pot, button folds(claiming AK). BB = JJ , turn 3 -ship !
KT >> KQ
Raise to 3 x BB (I think 1800) with KT suited in MP - button calls.
Flop K 10 X
Check raise button all in. Call. He shows KQ, turn and river TT for superfluous quads - ship.
Few smart poker plays by me put me around average 30K - break for final table - during fag break I order the 'lever'.
Blinds 400,800
JQ > KK
Pump it up UTG+1 withJQh - re-raised by UTG +2 to 6k. Everyone folds, not me, I have the lever. Call.
Flop K 10 x - nut str8 draw, beautiful - shove, called by chap who has top set - has he been watching ? River 9 - ship
22>AA
Raise in mid position with 22, SB re-raises AIPF I have him well covered. Call ! I know I'm in good shape when I see his AA. Turn = 2 - Skillz FTMW !
Down to 5 - Dick Lynch, Edna, Willie Tann, Mateboy, Me - Blinds 1000-2000
A7>66
A far better player than me sat to my left has been taxing any of my limps and impertinently a good number of my raises. Dick Lynch limps in the cut off. From the SB, I call with A7. BB raises to 8k, I shove, if he calls and I win he is pretty low and I'm where my play deserves to get me Imo. He tries to put me on a hand - eventualy calls with 2 unders to my A7 - 66. Flop brings the A - obv.
A2>A8
Limp on the button with A2. Willie in the BB makes it 8K with around 11k back. I'm over the top of that bet, push a stack but mis spoke and said call and turned over my A2 - he seemed quite keen to let my all-in stand with his A8. Ido.
River = 2, ship
29< AQ
Down to 4 - didn't really pick up any more premium hands so couldn't get too clever. Edna delivered 3 knockout blows, Mateyboy KKv JJ followed by Dick KK v TT then me, my 92 got outdrawn by AQ even though I was ahead on the flop and bet both flop and turn. Q river did for me - how can you beat these fish ? FFS,nh, wp, FML !!

Thanks all for the congrats though joining two new clubs (i)The compo & (ii) The Luton through & throughs was not something I aspired to as I set out for the evening :-)
Couldn't resist posting this because the beats I inflicted just kept coming to the level that I nearly pretended to some embarrassment at one point.
In truth, the hand that got me going was the raise pre with KT sooted when I was relatively short. It was flatted behind me, I hit the flop hard and got paid in full - think I played that well and it gave me some license to start taking a few liberties which led to a rather large dose of luck.
Nice to meet you too Mr Pelham - just talking to a proper player obv rubbed off - result-wise, not playing style of course :-)
