About three weeks too late in my opinion but glad to get him in the end. Didn't think this one would happen at all, a usually very reliable source told me yesterday that this deal was dead, the signing of Pedro Mendes and likely signing of Maurice Edu seemed to reinforce this.

Kyle Lafferty will serve you well this season, and with the arrival of Mendes, i really think you will win the SPL this season

Mind you, I am the bloke who backed Burnley for the Championship and thinks Spurs can finish top 4 in the premier Smiley

tbh I watched 90 minutes of Rangers AND 90 minutes of Celtic so far this season, and my opinion is one of sorrow for you Scottish lads at having to watch that shite week in and week out.

No wonder you are so unhappy at missing out on the European gravy train this year as it is the only chance you ever get to see top class players .

Im not being arsey about it, but seriously, the standard of club football in Scotland is seriously average... I bet deep down even the most fervent Rangers and Celtic fans long for a real challenge and test for their teams, and the sooner some sort of deal is done to get them into the Premier league is done the better ... but I cant see it ever happening, without the old firm, Scottish football would die a death.

Don't think you are being arsey at all. I think your point hits the nail squarely on the head, that is exactly why I am so gutted by the early Euro exit, the European games are something to look forward to and they do add the excitement that the week to week drudgery of the SPL sadly lacks.

I think there may be some sort of Euro league at some point as I think every league apart from maybe Spain has big clubs looking on with envy at the income and interest in the Prem. A Euro league would never happen when it was just the Scots, the Dutch, Portuguese, etc that wanted a Euro league, but if Italy, France, and Germany fancied it who knows. It may never happen but I believe it to be the best chance of Rangers and Celtic playing at a higher level on a regular basis.

agree with most of that Kev.  But as you know when its your own team you don't accept any criticism that comes along.

Celtic and Rangers in the EPL would be IMO top 6 every year maybe barring the first 2.  They would have so much more money and would have far greater exposure and would be able to attract the cream of world football if they played in the EPL.

I don't see it happening for a good time yet.  What I would do though if I was in charge of Scottish football is have a complete overhaul cut the number of teams, instead of bringing more teams in to replace teams that go to the wall.  I'd go for 2 leagues of 16 max, and bring in summer football.  would have 2 straight relegation spots and and one via play off would also try and get the juniors involved in promotion/relegation to the 2nd tier.

Some Junior teams get better crowds that premier league clubs do for certain games.

We should also move to summer football.

I agree bandit(shock) with what you say about the juniors...In Engerland they have the pyramid Structure and I think thats the way it should be- all the leagues down their from amateur to premiership are linked so gives you something to aim for- to keep moving up a level but up here its a farce- when Gretna went to the wall they had to get teams to Apply to get into the 3rd division rather than some kind of junior playoff to see who is best. I also couldn't believe Pollok didn't even consider- they have a higher attendance than most 2nd and 3rd division teams.

Remember a lot of Junior clubs don't want to join the seniors, they are happy getting the chance to play in the Scottish Cup and their own leagues. Would Linlithgow and Pollock, etc, get such good crowds each week if they were mediocre clubs in Div 2 or 3, I think not. Most of these clubs like to be big fish at their own level.

Its not finanically viable for the juniors to move up the leagues in the current set up but I think if we were to wipe out a couple of teams who ar ejust shit and offer nothing and restructure from top to bottom it could be worth getting the juniors involved.

I don't think the like of Pollock or the Rose would want to play in 3rd division.
