I've got a bit of a problem...Basically I am going off to do my teacher training in September and I am entitled to and have applied for a student loan.  When I was an undergraduate it was my parent's income that was assessed to decide my entitlement, but because I'm (probably inaccurately!) considered to be an adult, it is my income that is now assessed for my student loan entitlement.  They want evidence of all of my income for the last three years.  The problem I have is that for the last year I have done nothing but play poker, and before that I did 5 or 6 temp/part time jobs and as I have moved house about 4 times in the last three years I have no idea where my wage slips/P45s have disappeared to...The question is how can I prove my income (or hopefully the lack of it, as I get more money that way!) without having any wage slips or P45s?

Lol, that's the problem.  I have to prove that I have been supporting myself financially for the last three years, but at the same time I have to prove that I haven't been earning much so I can get the full loan...

Dept of pensions or whatever they are called with have details of your earnings from the tax you have paid. Poker earnings are not taken into account as far as I'm aware for anything that needs to be assessed. (if that makes sense)

You could report yourself for tax evasion, and then they'll work out how much they think you've earned. Smiley

Lol, see this is what happens when you don't have a "General Enquires" number.  I'm going to phone by the Tax Bereavement line in a minute and tell them I've died but that I want to know how much tax I paid over the last three years.

Lol, what a joke this had turned out to be.  I clicked on the link that you mentioned Dingdell and it asked me for an Employer Reference number to bring up the phone number of my local tax office.  Apparently after two hours spent googling to try and find the number another way I realised that it's impossible to contact your local tax office without any previous correspondance or this number, which is an absolute joke.  Someone did give me another number but it turned out to be out of service.

As I haven't technically been employed since 2006 obviously I don't have a reference number...So I rang up my mum and used her reference number only to find out that they can't help me anyway lol.  I did get it sorted in the end and they are going to send me the evidence.  However it would be nice if the Inland Revenue actually provided a helpful and useful website, but I've just realised that I'm talking about the Government so I am obviously asking the impossible.

What do they say on the advert?

"Tax needn't be taxing..."

Yeah I do, but I think I've managed to sort it now, thanks though Stuart.  I forgot to mention that I did also ring up the online website technical support because I didn't know who else to ring and I got told that "Your local tax office number should be in your phone book".  God these guys are helpful...
