Hi.  A friend of mine is considering moving to the UK, probably London for about 6 months. He currently plays for a living, mixed game and PLO, PLO8 tourneys online and several juicy live cash games to keep him alive. He is concerned about trying to do the same in the UK re converting $US winnings online to pounds and also finding soft games to consistently win at in London. Can anyone who plays for a living give us a run down on casinos and the large home game scene in the area? Also, anyone know how much you need to cash out online to have a decent living BR in the UK? Especially from a foreigners pov if you guys are out there!

Cheers.

Regarding, Changing over the funds online to Australian $, to UK Pounds, but again, most sites play in US $ Anyway, Pokerstars, FullTilt, Ipoker etc.

Regarding live cash games, most evenings and weekends you will get them all over London, Luton (Short train journy) and you can also get a cash game usually from about lunch time at the Victoria (Where the EPT London is played), dont really know about stakes, or level or skill, as have never really got involved as I have been on my lunch break etc, but there usually sitting with a few K in front of them.

Home games, errrr I dont know of any regular ones myself, in London, but there are a couple of month, locally to myself, so I sure there are some, maybe an idea to look at www.gumtree.com or just get him to talk to people when he is over here.

Living wise, Getting around London is cheap, bus or tube, maximum of about £40-£60 a month, etc and black cabs are not highly expensive, £2.20 to get in compared to £4.40 where I live. If he is going to live in a one bedroom flat alone, your looking at between £600-£900 a month, and that is not even the top end market, If he is going to flat share, which alot of Aussies do when they come over, your looking at between £300-£600 a month.

For a king of idea of quality and price etc

Flat Shares

Flats

http://www.gumtree.com/london/80/27208680.html
http://www.gumtree.com/london/90/27021690.html

Depending on if he is like most people who live / work in London like myself, Most people spend alot on food etc, as you pick it up on the mo which usually cab be expensive, but including rent, bills etc your going to be looking at between, £1,500 - £2,500... But that is living the way i live...

Casinos wise you have

Leicester Sq - http://thecasinolsq.com/pages/index.html
Luton - Great card room - Short train journy - http://www.gcasino.co.uk/luton/
The Vic - www.grosvenorcasinos.com
The SportsMan - http://www.thesportsmancasino.com/

Which I personally think are the places to play poker but you also have

Loose Cannons - http://www.loosecannonec4.co.uk/
Equal Chance - http://www.equalchance.co.uk/

And also the top place in England to play poker

Dusk Till Dawn - www.dtdpoker.com (4 hours ish by train from London)

This may help slowly

Thanks for the reply. $AU to pounds isn't so much of an issue as we don't have any sites here. All our play is on the usual suspects which are all $US.

Nice, I knew there had to be some big games around.

I live in Melbourne, Tim, your future fellow Pom, lives in Brisbane.

Bear in mind people are going to be reluctant to post details about the big private games on an internet forum.
