will there be alternates allowed into the event?
why was it limited to 140?
Hi Paul,
It's limited to 140, because it's a basic policy for Sky Live Days that the Tourneys finish at a reasonable time, & we aim to be done by somewhere between Midnight & 1am usually. So if the field size had been any larger, it would have either extended the Tourney beyond what Sky consider a reasonable finishing time, or mean't a dilution (speeding up) of the Structure to get the Comp finished in time. The working hours of the Camera Crew & Sky Staff also have to be taken into consideration - they start work preparing, at 11am, & start filming interviews & suchlike with the Players from Noon onwards. So to expect them to work much beyond 1am or 2am is a bit too much.
The three Live Days (excluding the Boot-Camp) Sky Poker staged in Season One all adhered to this policy, & worked extremely well, & the tourneys were just about the right length. Bear in mind, with play beginning at 2pm, even the Players would not be able to have the stamina to play beyond 12 hours really.
All Sky Poker UK Tour Season Two Events will be limited to similar field sizes, with the exception, of course, of next June's Grand Final, which wil be an all-singing & dancing 2 day jobbie.
Players can stay all night if they wish, of course, as there are usually lots of "fun" SNG's, Heads-Up Matches, & that sort of stuff going off. The Venues will be open to regular Members on the day, so you would be welcome to come along & join in the fun later if you wish.
For those reasons, plus the fact it's a "Qualification only" Event, I don't believe Sky Poker would be accepting Alternates, but I'm happy to ask them on your behaf.
If you'd like to play Leg Two, on November 15th, field capacity likely to be 140 again, (beware, incoming spam), Online Qualification will start shortly after Leg One is out of the way. I'd suggest, though, that you try & qualify early, as all the Seats for Leg One went within less than 2 weeks, even though it was Online Qualification only, except for the 20 Seats allocated to DTD for which a Live Super-Sat was held last week.
There is clearly a huge demand for events such as APAT's & Sky Poker Tour days, which are well-run, have added-money, & cater for enthusiasts, so it's actually tough to meet demand without diluting the experience by shortening the clock or making them last longer.
Hope to see you at Leg Two, if not this Saturday.

In, although a cynic might say that the sat had been timed to coinside with the football, thus ensuring a higher turnout of females, relative to what would have been expected, than males.

I agree, however as generalisations go then more men like football than women is not entirely inaccurate.
Good planning if that is why they did it, however 19 players suggests not.
