The National Anthem

While in Beijing there were occaisions were countries were singing their national anthem and at times this was spine tingling, and must admit that the yanks were good at this with a word perfect rendition. However, I was at the handover party in the Mall yesterday and it was quite clear that us Brits are either too shy to sing God save the Queen or just don't know the words. At England games you get a good start and then a lalala bit and it fades away.

In my view it's time to start up a campaign to have the anthem sung at primary schools across all of the UK in readiness for 2012 and beyond.

No, it's a dirge. And worse, it's NOT a national anthem, it's just a song worshipping someone who by accident of birth and the warmongering, religious bigotry and downright thieving of her ancestors gets to 'rule' us. Oh yes, and it also is deeply offensive to Scots, describing them as seditious and calling for them to be crushed - I mean, what sort of a national anthem calls for the crushing of over one-fifth of its own population??? If that happened in somewhere like Zimbabwe we'd be demanding sanctions against that country's government!

When I went to Primary School  we had to say the"Lords prayer"  out loud every day before classes began
Then at going home time we had to say the "Keep us safe "Prayer.
