Question for all you full time poker degens...
«

Im interested to know how many people on here play poker for a living? Those of you who sometimes read my crappy blog will know that i have been playing poker 'full time' since Jan this year. However, you will also know that i am the laziest full time poker bum in the world. I struggle to play more than 20 hrs a week tbh and have zero structure. I have made a fair amount of dosh as a part time player and have also made a bare living since going full time but i am really going to try to be much more disciplined as of tomorrow playing 35+ hrs a week with some sort of structure.
It would definitely help me to hear from other full time fish like myself. Specifically i would like to know how many hrs a week you play, what games, limits etc and if you have a set routine/structure to your week at the tables. Also, how do you cope with the boredom of online poker? Cheers.

get a job, realise how lucky you are, go back to poker. i would kill for the opportunity to play poker for a living and not have to face a boring office job for the next 40 years....put things in perspective and you will soon start putting the hours in/appreciate what you have!
EDIT - just read that back seems aggressive, not meant to be!

When people go down the gym and work out, they sometimes use a buddy to spot them. A kind of mutual motivation thing, spurring each other on to do more reps than they would if they were just by themselves.
Maybe you could do something similar (but less gay) for poker. Find another pro/semi-pro player in a similar position (won't be too tough, we're all bums) to do this kind of thing with. Exchanging a message or two with them every day with how much you've played, so you can spur each other on.

I suffer from exactly the same kind of malaise as you mate, sometimes i wonder what i actually do with my life. The fact i have spent over 2 months of my life on blonde might have something to do with it.
I have got slowly better with it, by setting monthly goals and then dividing them up into daily targets. That way everything is broken down into managable chunks, instead of saying im going to play 2000 tournies this month and get nowhere near. I have this timetable stuck up on bedroom wall and refer to it all the time. This is very gay and something i have never done in my life before, i was crap at organisation when i was teacher, just about every lesson was off the cuff and revision for exams before that were made up of 24 hr marathons the day b4 the exam.
I find it best to link these timetable in with poker sites loyalty schemes, so there is a tangiable reward for grinding that bit extra. Also rewarding yourself when and only when you achieve your goals i find good.

Get a Job imo.
The reason i say this is coz my flatmate ChipRich is a full time Professional and sometimes doesnt leave our flat for weeks on end, never feels like air, never has any social interaction.

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k. “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi. Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.

Another Amatay prop bet would be mint. How about a number of games played bet this time round?
Alternativley, even though Im sure you have a monster roll, why not get someone to buy a % of you? Playing with someone elses wedge might make you more professional? I'd take a slice

Is the life of a poker pro as glamourous as it is made out to be by guys like Roland De Wolfe, Phil Hellmuth and Phil Ivey? Or is it that the top 5% of professionals are living the dream and the rest trying to earn a half decent wage or in other words, 'grinding it out'?
I'm just curious because the card rooms I go too the serious players look so bored out of their skulls that i don't know what drives them.

Live pro's..well, it's better than being stuck in an office..but it's still hard work.
I tried the online thing for a while and just couldnt do it..lost the bloody will to live.

2 sessions a day, usually broken by a gym/pub/sport/Social trip, 4/5 nights a week. 4-7pm......11-4am. Simple. But i still really love the game and could pretty much play for eternity without getting bored.

Hi amatay, im mainly an online pro I guess (for this year anyway).
When I used to grind 3/6 and 5/10nl I would play about 20 hours a week which I would consider a lot. I played 4-6 tables a time.
I now play 25/50 and 50/100 and probably play 10 hours a week (lolaments). I would not consider this lazy either as finding soft games up that high is harder. I am also usually just 1 or two tabling.
I'm almost never bored as I don't play TOO much, I find myself playing golf everyday which means I am more motivated to play poker in the evenings.
As for getting into a routine...do as you please. You are your own boss after all
