He thinks the market is going down?!  Plenty of us can confirm that.

I tried a similar trick, except they've all gone up Sad
I'm hoping they come crashing down any minute now.

the game has an option where, if you think a particular share is going down, or indeed the whole market is going down, you can sell shares you do not own and profit that way

I sold 3 market vehicles (2 in emerging markets) to profit from this

I think markets are going down

when I stop thinking this I'll close the position and use the money+profits to buy stocks

If you've got that good an insight is it really that stressfull to do a little bit on the side and not get back into it fully and keep earning?

Or do you still drop in and out of it from time to time?

* Stress

* My Personality (if you do it you can't do it half-hearted)

* I drop in and out occasionally but ONLY when I have real risk capital spare (ie if I lose it all, I can walk away relaxed)

there is an option on the game

"sell short"

still within the $100,0000 limit lets say you want to sell $10,000 worth of Bank of America at $20 per share you put in an order to "sell short" 500 shares and that accounts for $10k of your portfolio

When the shares fall, buy (BUY) at a profit

beware though, if the shares go up your profits will fall dramatically

So its more a short term traders technique

I think you'd need a bigger bankroll to do this properly than you would for poker

I was scared off the idea in university because I thought that if I did it I was bound to end up bankrupting the company like happened to Barings.

Murphy's Law.  I sell and they suddenly start their climb.  Sigh.
