I know it sounds daft, but try unplugging it and leave it for maybe 20-30 minutes before plugging it all back in again. Has worked for me in the past.

Well, I know what I would do next, but don't know how to explain it. Something about going into the back and loading 'last known good configuration' while praying that you have one. lol I'm sure one of the techno's will be on soon enough to talk you through it.

You could try getting dressed/undressed/showered again, only this time describe it in more detail.

When I had that problem, I asked around, and got a good local chap in who took it away, wiped the hard disk, cleaned everything with a lovely feather duster ( I believe ) and reloaded everything that I needed it to have so it was beautifull and pristeen.
It worked for 2 days, then went tit's up again.
When he came round next time he said the hardwear must be knackered, so I'll need new flangyflimflamthingmibibobs which'll cost a couple of hundred quid, with labour on top of that. And he bought a bill for £200 quid for the work he'd already done.
I looked on Dell, and found I could have got a brand new WORKING box for about £150 straight off.
So if I were you, I'd threaten it with a thrashing, then invest in a new one, whilst hiring a 4lb lump hammer to further discipline your rogue 'pooter. ( I see £7.47 seems to be a fair price ) Of course, a further investment of an extra £16.19 means you could upgrade to a 14lb sledge hammer, for guaranteed results.

Sounds like you have lost some of the DLL files required to start windows or some corrupt sectors on your hard drive.
1st possible fix is to try to get into windows using safe mode - to do this reboot the pc and keep your finger on the F8 button until you get a menu page giving you the option to use safe mode. If you can get into windows using safe mode I would suggest letting it load up then try doing a system restore once into windows. This might locate a missing DLL file that is stopping windows from loading normally.
Report back once you have tried the above.

You need to try 'System Restore' - setting your PC's configuration back to an earlier version that worked successfully.
Click Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore
Then follow the prompts to select a date (in bold) where a 'restore point' was saved.
Reboot whilst crossing fingers. If unsuccessful, boot into safe mode again and try restoring to an earlier date.
