The Computer

Advent 7099 laptop, Intel core duo T2300 1.66ghz

The Problem

Was sometime last week and i was playing a bit of online poker and lost a sng so i bashed my keyboard a little hard (not too hard tho). I then logged my computer off and when i left it was in fine condition. Came to switch it on the next day and i could hardly log into my profile as i struggled putting the password in and the keyboard went a bit haywire! I set up a guest profile so if when i logged off it, if it wouldn't work again i would have a back up to get onto the computer. I came to turn it on the next time and it wouldn't even load up the windows page and it was a black Intel centrino screen with a loud constant beep! Then a day later i tried it again and it loaded up but this time the keyboard wouldn't work at all!

Also i have had this laptop for a few years now and its started getting a bit slower and a few niggles here and there!

I would like a new laptop and i pay 7.99 a month to PC world as cover. Does anybody know if this covers overseas? and accidental damage etc?

The Problem 2

As i am in Australia and my documents are back home in England i am struggling to know what my cover involves and if i can get it fixed on the cover plan. I seam to remember the guy saying when i bought it that if the laptop i have now is UN fixable and they don't sell that kind anymore then i get an equivalent laptop but newer.

Also would they be able to retrieve all my itunes songs and pictures and documents that i have got stored on my laptop?

If anybody could help me with this problem then i would be grateful.

If your insurance covers accidental damage don't say 'I hit it then it stopped working'.

As it sounds like you've knackered the keyboard, your hard drive should be ok, which is where all your stuff is, so you won't lose your documents and that.

Personally, I wouldn't pay £96 a year for the cover plan you have. After three years you'll have paid enough to just buy a new laptop.

I could send my laptop back to the UK and my Mum could get it sorted for me but thats prob gonna cost a bit to get it shipped too!

Firstly I would suggest trying to use an external keyboard as it sounds like some of the keys maybe permanently depressed which could be why the laptop won't boot into windows. If the external keyboard works ok it is relatively easy to replace the laptop keyboard although sourcing the correct keyboard won't be that easy.
As for your documents etc. theres a very good chance that the hard drive is perfectly ok and therefore could be attached externally to another laptop or pc to retrieve all your data.

easy to get this keyboard on ebay. Advents have a habit of going tfts up so are sold for spares on the web. Probably just the keyboard, you need to give it a hell of a whack to waste the motherboard through the keyboard. If the hard drive is reading/writing when you bash the machine then it can cause damage, but unlikely and these are cheap to replace anyway.
As poster says, no way I pay 8 quid a month for cover either.

I do have some sit n go tips for you though. When I used to play them a lot I found that a mug, mouse, speaker, or cd spindle would make a much better releaser of tension when hurled across a room when you've just bubbled after 1 hours effort.

Erm....NO! Im not that good with the technical stuff like that!

There are a few key thingys that have come off tho! cant even get them back on im that useless!

Any ideas of other laptops that are hot at the moment? also i like the look of the Apple I-Mac is there any issues with the I-Mac etc?

If you just after a lappy to play poker and browse its not worth fixing the laptop, might as well buy a new one for 200 quid that does the job.
