Playing Live Cash As A Tight Player

I don't mind admitting I am a tight player generally - but I am having some problems playing live cash (usually pot limit 50p/1 or 1/1).

The games I have played in are very fast and loose - but I have just not been able to get a piece of any of the action whatsoever.

I am finding I am just folding hand after hand after hand - either due to poor starting hands/position or being priced out of the pot due to raises and re raises.

But it seems the other players are totally indifferent to any starting hand/positional aspects and just play like maniacs where I play.  I even saw a 270 quid pot @ 50p/1 when a guy called an all in on the flop for 100 quid with king high with no draw and he was winning. 

How would people approach these sort of games?  I am not ashamed to admit that I have played live cash for 4 hours before and not won a single pot, or even played more than 5-10 hands in this time.  I'm not a rock but when I am playing these it sure feels like it!

It depends on the place, some there is max sit down others there are none.  When there is a max sit down I always start with the maximum.

OK, you are attempting to play sensible poker but even half sensible players will recognise that if you are playing that few hands in that length of time that you are only entering pots with a certain range of hands and then your likelihood of getting paid off reduces


One thing you may wish to think about is as follows:

Lets say you sit down with £500 (for example only). If you assess that the table has loose aggressive players on it then allocate some of that £500, let's say £50...as an advertising budget...treat it as a cost of doing business

Early on in the session raise with junk or call a raise with junk or try to knock an opponent off a hand with junk and try to get to a couple of showdowns as cheaply as possible...show the junk, shrug your shoulders, look as inexperienced as possible and then....


revert to type and pray for some hands!!!

Following on from that, don't lack gamble thereafter when push comes to shove

Last night I got in a Hold Em game...£100 sit down....two complete fish....great line up

followed the above strategy but folded Q9 in an unraised pot on a 932 flop after heavy three way action (has to be an overpair I thought) and folded 88 on 532A board after huge action (well one of them's got a 4)...I was shown J9 and K3 by the winner!!

I doubled my money by the time I got up, but it should have been so much more...

Good post Tight End!  The problem I find when playing sensible live is that fewer hands per hour makes it harder to get involved with pots.  I want to play live cash but get disheartened when all I seem to do is throw away cards!
