Bongo posted some cracking photos of the sun on tikay's thread, and it got us talking in the office here.  Someone pointed me to this video on youtube.  It shows how small the earth is compared to the 'giant' planets in our solar system and compared to the sun.  It then goes on to show how small the sun is compared to other stars.

Interesting stuff...

Very interesting stuff, however it contains some glaring inaccuracies, such as the layout of the planets and stars, I'm sure they can't be that close together?Huh?

From being a kid i've found thinking about this very unsettling,i struggle to comprehend the vastness of space and can't even watch The sky at night as it puts me on life tilt.I kinda wish i was religous and therefore i could think the scientists were just on somekind of wind-up.There's a series on discovery at the minute,NASA's greatest missions which is absolutely fascinating,as an aircraft engineer i look at the technolgy used in early space flight compared to what's used in the modern aviation industry and marvel at what was achieved.

We could still make it into the world cup so long as we get Mars, Venus and San Marino  in our qualifying group.

Its also incredible to realise how giant we are, W Cephi may be 288,194 x the size of the earth, but an atom of helium is 2,000,000,000,000 x smaller than a human and a single cell is 2,000,000 x smaller than a human.
