Whats the crack with winning money in the US if you're a British Citizen then? Does it get taxed at the top tier rate or does it fall into a different category?

We have tax treaty with the US, so your winning should be taxed under Uk tax policy. So we should pay nothing as poker is non taxable, you do have to jump through some hoops to be exempt.

On a side note to the tax talk, just seen the final two episodes of this year's ESPN coverage on pokertube - after waiting all this time to hold the final table, to then not show it live, or at least on delay was bad enough, but on top of that only 2 hands of HU play were shown! 2 hands from what was apparently over 4 hours of play.

I read somewhere he only had 20% of his action anyway.

AFAIK that was Demidov, he was backed for 23 prelim WSOP events and WSOPE by a backer on an 80-20 basis. He was $150k in the hole prior to WSOP apparently.

seems more likely, doesn't eastgate play 200/400NL online pretty doubtful he'd need backing @ 80/20.

Yeah, I realised I'd got them mixed up after I posted it, but too late for me to delete it without people who'd already read it thinking 'that AndrewT is trying to remove evidence of his mistakes'.
