It is thought that gambling is one of those industries that is "recession proof"

People going out less, spending more evenings trying to spin up the little bit of cash that they do have etc etc
Could end up being really really good for poker.

I've just written 1200 words on this.

Sadly it will have to wait until December's trade press!

in a nutshell. Yes, Live more than Online. Mid stakes more than High stakes, Mid stakes more then low stakes.

Judging by the numbers at Blackpool this week, the answer is no.

put on poker fessies where there is an abundance of cheap accommodation, and other places to go other than sit in the casino all day and night and people will play them.

A week in blackpool for the GUKPT fessie will ALWAYS get bigger fields than Luton etc where there is fk all else to do but sit in the casino.

i personally think that at the low and high end of the stakes it will make little impact, properly built bakrolls are recession proof in their own rights, you may need to withdraw more if your living off your poker BR but apart from that things are ok.

i do think that it will affect the live scene, especially where it is obvious that the intention is to grab as much money off you as possible, ive got a personal pet hatred for casinos that give 30+ minute breaks so you get bored and start spinning.

ive still got my faith in DTD (cause i love my job) and other poker-only ventures, although i do wonder how the current state of things will affect issues such as rake% in new clubs like fox, i have every intention of playing there when it opens and hope thatour shodidily run economy doesnt mean ill be paying 2bb's for a cup of coffee lol

the other good thing about havinga  poker bankroll is that if your half way smart, you will be hoarding it in the stronger currency relative to the £ and will be keeping it there, £1k used to be $2k... its £1.5k to $2k now, so im holding as much as i can In USD till i need it Smiley

Agreed and its going to get a fair bit worse.

For festival live events........Online sats with seat guarantees FTW.

OP mentions Sky... low stakes/play for fun,... should hold up well, especially their live tour wher you can sat in for a few quid, have a fun day, and have some added value.

That isn't necessarily representative as it could represent more of a problem with Vegas rather than gambling in general.
