Computer Problem
«
on:
November 22, 2008, 04:37:57 PM »
This morning when I started the comp up it stopped at the 'MEMORY TEST' bit for about 15-20 minutes, a bit it usually skips through in about 5 seconds, any ideas?? I dont recall incorrectly shutting it down last night at all, and its never done this before. Ive since restarted it and its doing exactly the same thing , taking 15-20 minutes each time. Help?

What's plugged into your USB ports?
It looks like the fast memory check option has been switched off for some reason - does it pass the check OK? Are you having any other problems?
If you hit del on that screen it should take you to the bios - have a look around and see if you can find a option like "quick memory test" or "quick post" etc. If you're unsure don't change anything but ask.
You can hit esc to skip the memory test to save you having to wait 15 mins every time you boot until the problem is fixed.

Yes it passes the test fine Bongo...
When I press escape on the memory test nothing happens, it just stays on that screen...Thats the thing Bongo, there is nothing plugged into the USB ports when it keeps popping up!!

Well I've never had this problem on my computer so you may have to consider other causes

I had the same thing intermittently. It was caused by my external USB hard drive going faulty. I got rid of that and everything was fine again.
Unplug all your USB devices, see if it boots okay then boot up plugging each device in in turn and see if you can deduce which is the problem.
