Guess most users of this forum know that on Saturday 3rd December P4C will be holding the Xmas Fancy Dress Poker Tournament sponsored by sfgroup at Nottingham Racecourse.

Game for Life has a tradition of awarding grants to local organisations at the poker events. This is a tradition that will be continued at Nottingham. The trustees have instructed me to identify organisations for awards and to make the necessarry arrangements.

I have identified a couple of groups for awards, however I would like to hear from anyone who knows of any individuals, groups or charities worthy of a Game for Life grant in the East Midlands area.

The floor is open...................................................

Just to keep everyone up to speed with where the money that is raised goes.............................

A grant has been finalised to the Playcentre in Nottingham. The Playcentre is  The Play Centre for Disabled Children, Young People and their Families located on Mansfield Road, Sherwood, Nottingham.
We will be handing over a hoist platform (to enable severley disabled children to use the sensory room) and a portable oven to a represntative of the Playcentre at the event on the 3rd December. These items are desperately needed and difficult to obtain funding for. Game for Life is only too pleased to help.

If you have any ideas how the money raised by Game for Life should be spent please add to this thread or PM me and I will pass on your views to the trustees. This is as much your Charity as mine.

Another grant will be handed over on Saturday.

Game for Life will be awarding a grant to Nottingham City Hospital to be used for kids receiving dialysis on the renal ward. These children are often very ill and may have to receive dialysis for 5-7hrs x 3-4days per week. During dialysis their mobility is severley restricted, although they have use of their hands and their minds are still active. In order to make the dialysis experience a little more tolerable Game for Life will be handing over three hand held DVD players and two GameBoy Advances. Game for Life will also be supplying a selection of DVDs and games.

Thankyou for your support.

Thanks Simon.

It is gratifying when people approve of how the money that is raised is spent. I would urge more people to contact me with their views on how the funds raised are put to use. All too often I will get people walk up to me in a casino and say, why haven't you given to.....such  or such good cause?etc. The answer invariably is that the charity wasn't aware of the specific need and we haven't been approached. It may sound a 'cop out' but we can only help those we know about. I can assure everyone that I do spend a lot of time highlighting projects that Game for Life may be willing to help, however, it would be fantastic if the users of this forum could make some suggestions, I am sure many people have causes very close to their hearts that we may be able to help. I would like to point out that I do not award the grants personally, my job is to do the research and present each application to the trustees for consideration and every request is judged on it's own individual merits.

Unfortunately i will be playing a satellite for the WPT-PCA caribbean adventure on saturday so i wont be able to make it but did visit your website on www.game4life.org to look into making a donation. I dont have a paypal account so i couldnt donate direct but when i get home tonight i will email the address on the site to find out how else i could make a donation.
