10 things I find odd about Poker, the people who play it, and the people who don’t:

1)   We play for hours with people, chatting like long lost friends, yet often rarely know their names

2)   We would never leave our keys/wallet/phone lying around, yet think nothing of leaving our chips on the table while visiting the bathroom or having a smoke

3)   The people who play steady, sensible poker all night, and then suddenly push all-in blind on their last hand

4)   Non poker players insisting that poker is gambling, yet baulking at your assertion that roulette is 100% luck

5)   Players openly admitting they are better at tournaments, which is a bit like saying that they are so inept from the flop onwards that cash game poker is just too scary.

6)   The praise and kudos we give to first time tournament winners when the luck factor is significant enough to not warrant it.

7)   The etiquette and protocol of the game is admirable, yet curiously at odds with the objective of the game, which is to be the best liar, the most feared bully and to generally send your contemporary home with empty pockets and a heavy heart.

8.   It must be the only vocation in the world where a professional in the field is expected to put in an indefinable period of work losing money rather than earning it.

9)   The people who wish to have poker classified as an official game of skill, when to do so could make poker a taxable pastime. Let them remain ignorant of the truth I say.

10)   That anyone could give even a millisecond's thought to the notion that poker might be considered a sport.

... and don't even get me started on the subject of why people tell bad beat stories

1)   You can ask their names - I always do if they chat back Smiley

2)   I love this fact.

3)   yeah, b*st*rds keep raising the blinds Wink

4)   While rummaging for a couple of £20 notes to buy their bingo books!

5)   Phil Helmuth may strongly disagree with this!  It's just a different discipline, pure and simple.

6)   Expression = Don't tap the aquarium

7)   Yeah, next you'll be telling me that pugilists who punch the lights out of each other for a living shake hands at the end of a scrap and are full of priase for their opponents skills after taking or giving a hammering Smiley

8.   Anyone brave enough to setup their own business does this every day methinks!

9)   As long as you can write losses off to tax too Smiley

10)   Snooker, Darts, mmmmmmmmm, but I know what yer saying!

... and don't even get me started on the subject of why people tell bad beat stories....well he had only 2 friggin outs to hit on the river, played him beautifully, got him to put all his chips in as a massive underdog and the muppet still hit his 2 outer, UNBELIEVABLE................

The oddest thing I find about poker is the number of old men who wear hoodies.
